They lose power from both engines but just before they land the copilot sees they have a bit left in the left so they repower it and it gives him what he needs. The map of the areas below show the two options of other airports they try and direct them to.

Thanks for posting, very interesting.

I was working in Manhattan that day in a building on 50th Street and we saw the rudder of the aircraft as it was going down river.

A whole bunch of competent professionals involved in that situation.

grunt,

Great video but just one point of clarification. When he says the "the left one came back a little bit" he was referring to the relight attempt that they initiated immediately after both engines rolled back.

You can hear them running the steps of the loss of all engines ECAM moments after the engines rolled back. "ignition continuous, ETC ETC." When Sulley says we got the left one back a little bit he is referring to engine acceleration but the engine never regained any usable power. The aircraft pitches up shortly after that. That was Sulley trading airspeed for glide because he had to fly over a bridge that isn't shown in the graphic.

I was an Airbus Captain for another airline the day that happened and had flown from LGA to ORD about an hour before it occurred.

You gotta love the old stick and rudder guys. When things go wrong you want someone at the controls who doesn't go all vapor lock.
