That's the catch. While it might be legal, there are VERY few CA FFLs that will accept a firearm shipment from an individual.

Ray, I don't think I have ever seen a seller who allows a firing inspection, so I am not sure that's a real issue. Biebs, That apparently is not unique to CA. Evidenced by the number of ads that I see that say: "Your FFL must except from a private individual" regardless of state. But as I said, folks can do whatever it is they want to do. As an aside, I have spoken to 3 different FFLs who said it took them a whopping 15 minutes to do the 1 time registration on the CA DOJ site and getting the shipping approval per shipment takes 2 minutes. I am somewhat reminded of the words of the famous Thomas Sowell: “The reason so many people misunderstand so many issues is not that these issues are so complex, but that people do not want a factual or analytical explanation that leaves them emotionally unsatisfied. They want villains to hate and heroes to cheer - and they don't want explanations that fail to give them that.” Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue. What I have learned on AR, since 2001: 1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken. 2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps. 3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges. 4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down. 5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine. 6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle. 7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions. 8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA. 9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not. 10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact. 11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores. 12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence. 13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Me either. There are lots of other states, sell to them. The bigger nuisance is getting match-grade rimfire ammunition. TomP Our country, right or wrong. When right, to be kept right, when wrong to be put right. Carl Schurz (1829 - 1906)

I used to run into that problem all the time when I lived in California. I solved the issue, I moved to Kentucky. A local shop that I didn't expect would, agreed to accept ammunition shipments and do the paperwork. Cheers... TomP Our country, right or wrong. When right, to be kept right, when wrong to be put right. Carl Schurz (1829 - 1906)

It’s kind of becoming a nonissue anyhow- the shippers around here refuse to accept a gun for shipment without an FFL. Makes sending a gun in for factory repair an issue…

For the average guy its just too much work to worry with about California silliness just to sell a firearm. There is absolutely NO upside to a seller to sell to a Cali resident when he has another willing buyer in a more gun friendly state. Folks will always take the path of least resistance. So you’re saying firearm regulations in CA aren’t that restrictive? Really? I lived there for 37 years before I retired. I know better. Have you noticed how many AR posters have left CA in the last few years, including the originator of this thread? mIKE, I'm thinking its policy vs. Law in many cases. Ive been misinformed many times by FFL holders on certain legal issues as to their legality, and they were quoting policy Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

Jeffrey, there are some real idiots among the ranks of FFL holders that will not accept a long gun from a nonlicensee under any circumstances, "just to play it safe." You can even quote them the applicable U.S. Code citation, and "they ain't a-gonna do it cause they are skeert of the ATF." There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

Ive sold a number of guns to a calif outfit and they have a 10 day hold and I give a 3 day inspection. the notify the buyer and he may inspect the gun and wait or return..Never been a problem. Mike I will allow a buyer to fire the gun if its a used gun if I advertise it as accurate to a stated degree and must be returned as agreed..Its all about negotiation..
