Here is a chance to own an unusual Trapdoor Springfield with great target potential. I took in an average-condition 1884 Trapdoor with a shot-out bore in a trade. And then I happened on an 1873 receiver that had a virtually new and unfired '84 or later Springfield barrel on it -- something I had not seen before. The barrel had wrench marks of some sort out near the front sight -- a Bannerman put-together? -- but was otherwise perfect and even had cosmoline-like grease under the brand-new Buffington rear sight. I sent these to a certain gunsmith in Iowa whose name "dpcd" is not unknown in these parts, to have the "new/old stock" barrel installed on the 1884 rifle, where it belonged. Bill, he e-mailed me, this barrel is unfired.
Well, I fired about 20 rounds of both black and smokeless through it, just gong-plinking, and everything works fine. I even replaced the ramrod retaining spring with a new/old stock part from S&S after reading that these are often found cracked, which degrades accuracy.
She won't win a beauty contest, but won't lose either. No significant cracks in the wood that I can find. She might look average to the casual observer, but no one will suspect a new original Springfield barrel.
Asking $900 plus $50 for shipping. No FFL required unless you live in a communist state. Not looking for trades, thanks.
If you also want the reloading dies, Starline brass and Lee 459-405HB mold, we can talk. Ask if questions.
