This is the long way around but years ago I wanted a 338 Ackley Improved barrel for my 200. If there is a bargain barrel in a smaller caliber, there are re-borers who can convert it. Mine was a damaged bore barrel in 270 Winchester and Cliff LaBounty bored and chambered it to 338 AI for me. Someone here on the forum bought the rifle years ago and I understand he's enjoying it quite a bit. Cliff told me the steel "cut like butter". | |||

I gave this idea some thought but read somewhere special machining is required to cut the breach end of the barrel to fit the action. So I assume a factory barrel is the only way to go?
