I have a 721 that was rebarreled in the early 50s to 7mm-06. I love it, and prefer it to the 270, but there ain’t a shittin’ bit of difference up to 160 grain bullets. I can certainly see how one can critique the circumstances of the inception, but the 270 is virtually unassailable as a hunting round. Matt FISH!! Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984: "Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right." | |||

With all due respect I disagree. During that time and before, and even continuing to this day American Rifle Companies were and are looking for calibers they could put their name on. 270 Winchester, .300 Winchester Magnum, .325 Winchester short Magnum, .280 Remington (instead of 7mmm Remington), 25 Winchester Super Short Magnum, .300 Savage, .444 Marlin and on and on into the night, You are correct, we didn't need all of those calibers, but NEW stuff sells!!!!!
