I am never the first one to broach that topic; I merely comment. With facts.
And mainly to piss off the "experts". Which is way to easy to do! I should be ashamed. But it's fun anyway.
And I'm giving the OP a free bump to the top, so it's like a public service. Speaking of whom; he was new and we have not heard from him lately.

It looks like you might be in the Puget Sound Region.

The Cabelas in Lacey, as of Tuesday, had a Pre64 Mod70 in 308. It wasn't in great cosmetic shape, but I don't recall the action having had any extra holes or otherwise messed with. Stock was kinda rough.

IIRC, they only wanted $699 for it. I remember thinking that the action was worth that.

The crap is condeming a model 70 pre 64 and a 98 Mauser, thats just plain stupid. but if you like Remington then you will love the Metal toys..
