Looks like 1962.

Is it a short mag or H&H..The short mag (300, 338, 264) will have a 458 stamped on the recoil lug and have a 3.4 box, the H&H will have cut-outs on top of action for ejecting the longer 375 and 300 H&H shells and have a 3.6 box..If it is a H&H size action I will take it. Jm

But for clarification, just having a serial number means nothing; lots of rifles have serial numbers that are not "firearms".
But of course, all Model 70s, do have to go to a licensee.
