I plan to send my Ruger action to LW facilities in Germany, to have a barrel chambered and threaded on it. I suppose they make good work. Any similar experience? Thanks - Lorenzo

I have spoken to them, they do prefer to have you send the action for a better fit.

If it doesn't create legal problems for you then go for it.

As far as I know they are at least on par with any of the big US names, Shilen, Lija, etc...

That said, I didn't actually get them to do anything for me as it turned out I would be in for a beurocratic nightmare.

wildboar, check on the Gunsmithing forum. Use the search facility and look for "Lothar Walther", you'll find these barrels have an almost religious following among some forum members.

Mho, I know that LW are excellent barrels; my question is if the custom work they make (chamber and thead) is of the same high quality (I guess it is)

Hi Lorenzo
It is not expensive, if rebarreling and headspace control is done at LW and the barrel is MQ ? was it Match quality or standard barrel the gun shop talked about?I lived for 26 years ago in nice what a nice place. I feel a lot of nostalgia. now i have to prepare myself for a cold winter with more than -30 dgree celsius in Sweden [Frown] moi qui, aime le solie et la mer [Frown] [Razz]

Hi Danny, the work should be done at LW factory and I am pretty sure that the barrel is "standard". -30 degrees is REALLY cold! Here on the coast the lowest temperatures never go below 0/-1 degrees, but in the inland (for example where I shot the chamois) the temperature can reach -8/-12 degrees. regards - Lorenzo

Hi Lorenzo
exposing to the -10 degree at (les alpes maritim)is a different thing than living a long winter witm many minus degrees every day. have a nice time in Nice [Big Grin] and don't forget the poors living in the cold [Wink]

Hi Dan
It dependes to your age. when you are young -30 would not frighten you but, when you get older and suffer from rehumatism like me then it is not cool at all. i would prefer to live somewhere with +30 celsius than -30 [Razz] when retired i may return to the warmer corners of the world ,but until that i have to suffer [Frown]

Hi Lorenzo
7-8 mounth later the winter is gone and Summer is back again, then Sweden is one of the best place on the earth to be [Smile] . the best is living winter time in France and summer in Sweden [Wink] Back in early 70s it was very easy to find a little cheap wineyard on the country side not far from Nice or Aix- en provence. how is the possibilty now? is it still possible to find some farms at human price or not?
regards
danny
