I always hear about how great the optics are with these but is there anything to worry about as far as ruggedness with these scopes? tracking, repeatable, not sensitive to "bumpy" roads, etc?

I have 5 V/VMs and maybe 3 or 4 Z/ZM series. I have never had one go bad on me. I'm not saying it could not happen, I have not had any problems, though.

I'm with Mike on the Zeiss'; and both he & I travel with firearms alot. My expereince has been that they are pretty durable and my overall expectations with them positive. Mine have been litteraly around the world several times under various extreme & not so extreme conditions and while I don't go out of the way to abuse any of my equipment - if you use & handle it enough; shit can happen. Would I hesitate to use a quality Zeiss scope on a Truck Gun? NO.

FWIW - vibration appears to me to be the #1 issue with failed scopes IMO, impact (dropping, falling) would be the next culprits.

My one big overall gripe with ANY scope is that their supposedly 1/8", 1/4", 1/2" or 1cm clicks NEVER appear to be as accurate as the Manufacturer claims - just my take-away; others may agree/disagree. I never trust XX clicks up/down/left/right without taking a shot to confirm.

Zeiss, S&B, Kahles, Docter, AimPoint, Leupold, Weaver, I've got 'em all and some have been returned due to self-inflicted damages (Weaver & Zeiss) and others for unexplainable defects; primarily recticle & tube issues (Weaver, Kahles & S&B) but the Customer Service from reputable brands has always been superb in my opinion; Weaver even accepted the repair costs for Grand Slam caused by my own stupidity; the Europeans are not so gracious in my expereince.

There is a lot of colloquial loyalty in the USA to US products. They also have the introductory level Zeiss conquest scopes which are not a patch on German Zeiss's.

I have two german Zeiss scopes and both are repeatable and dependable.

If you can't afford a Zeiss, then the Leupold with its excellent warranty is a mid level entry scope that will do the job.

I have and use Zeiss scopes since 1970. Including a Victory 1,5-6 x 42. And some of them, particularly a Zeiss Diatal DA 4x32 from these years, have suffered some very bad drops and knocks. They NEVER failed to me! I have had another small variable 30 mm tube German, very good scope, mounted in a .375 H&H after around 500 shots broked the Nº 4 wire reticle. By its 30 years guarantee, the factory repair it changing the reticule by an etched one, free. The Victory is rather new. But anyway I have used it a lot and in rain, horse, etc. No problem until now. But they are mechanical things made by men, so it MAY fail. I trust in Zeiss Scopes more than all the others.

I agree with everything you said about Zeiss scopes. I have a Diavari 2,5-10x50 mounted on my 270 win and it's a great scope.

I will be hunting next rut VERY near Junin. Later I will try luck at la Pampa, to make the drive back to Uruguay in two steps

I will be hunting in the mountains between the 28th of march and the 1st of april. Maybe we can have a beer or two at Junin if you are near there those days.

Actually I'm considering also Leica scope.
The test made on them show good mechanical construction, nothing to say or discuss about optical features

Zeiss Victory riflescopes are the best hunting riflescopes you can buy for money. Maybe now Swarovski Z6i is even better, but it is new and not well tested.

I have a Victory 2,5-10x50 on my .375H&H, dropped once during my last Safari. PH suggested to go to the shooting range, as he did not believed scope was still sighted.
Surprise...nothing to report.
