I have an impala shoulder mount in a crate with a taxidermist in RSA. What is the cheapest way to get it to the UK?

I have a quote for $300 US to get it to heathrow. Can I collect it from there or is it a pain in the ass with customs etc?? I have another quote from a UK based freight company to deal with customs and vat and deliver it but that is in the region of £170. Seems a pain to pay £150 to get it to this country and then pay more than that to get it out the warehouse?

I'm just in the process of getting my trophies back from RSA. I've paid the extra to get it delivered to my door from heathrow as after talking to some UK taxidermists that deal in african game they have said that once your trophy arrives you have to pay VAT on it. Depending on how long it takes the VAT perople to get payment for the trophy and sort things out can result in you having to pay storage for the crate. Hopefully I should have my trophies within a few weeks, then I should know hwether it was worth paying the extra. Also by using the thgird party person if they're experienced in shipping trophies and the likes they should be able to get it all sorted a lot quicker with less hassle.
