Could my fellow shooters from Europe p0lease set me straight on 8m cartridge potential and dimesnions please? I'm interested in a real world comparison of 8x57IS, 8x60S and 8x64S Brenneke. Is the x64 case off the 9.3x64 Brenneke or a standard x57 case?

Thank you in advance.

You have already listed the cases from low to higher volume - next step would be cases like 8x75RS and 8x68S. Sorry, I can't provide the actual case volumes.

Figure that an 8x64S can be loaded to about 2700-2800 fps with a 200 grs bullet. Our very own "Monestary Forester" gets 2840 fps with a 196 grs bullet - probably in a 24" barrel. I got 2700 fps with the same powder and charge, 200 grs Nosler AB in a 22" barrel. The 8x60S and the 8x57S are not far behind - 100-200 fps, maybe... Factory S&B 8x64S 196 grs ammo runs about 2600 fps from my 22" barrel. I have not shot the 8x64S for that long, but what I have seen of it I like - modest recoil and great killing potential. I'm sure the same could be said for either the 8x57IS or the 8x60S.

The 8x64S is NOT built on the same case as the 9.3x64. Rather, the 8x64S case is a stretched 8x57IS case - or a 7x64 necked up (more or less - minor variations in shoulder). The 9.3x64 on the other hand has had the case body diameter increased - it is essentially a short, fat .375 H&H designed to fit in a M98 Mauser action, but without the belt.

Mike Thank you very much on the 8x64 I could not find a drawing or data here in the states just that of the 9.3x64 Brenneke. The 8x64S is basically then an 8mm-06 and the x57 and x60 a variation with ballistic parity in the field.

8x57IS loaded to "modern" pressure it is then as dies and brass are easy to find.
Again my thanks
