Sorry to hear that Griff, but the upper echelons in BASC are breathing again!!

Unfortunately I always felt it was a futile effort from the very start. You would have ended up the same a my old buddy and been a lone voice in the midst of the puppets who dance to the tune of the puppet master otherwise known as John Swift.

BASC's rank and file membership has been steadfastly ignored by the management for years, and will remain so as long as the current incumbents remain at the helm.

I second the above.

Regret you didn't get elected Griff.... however BASC council is a democracy, sadly the membership are largely apathetic. Which is why of 127.000 members less than 3% can be bothered to vote for the new council candidates.
Likewise for the centenary agm apparently 60 or 70 delegates/members total bothered to go.
Don't lets blame John Swift and the existing council, blame an apathetic membership.

Couldn't agrre with you more, we would like change, but are not prepared to to do anything about it!Less than 1% attended the Centennary AGM, 3% voted, total votes cast was 3170 of which J.Drydon got 1200(ex Basc employee)R.Walters standing for re-election 1080,Self 880.
I believe that the AGM next year is going to be north of border lets see if we can rouse the troops and surpass 100 delegates..Let us see if we can have an online voting system in place by then. Beam it LIVE on the new members forum..

that's a shame about that but when nnoises start being made then at some point the top dogs will have to listen. I just hope it won't be too late.

Mr Swift indeed is at the top and as such must take responsibility for the direction the organisation goes in and also the comments made. I can't believe that in a recent article hereferred tothe RSPB as passionate and made a back hand stab at his own members for their voiced outrage at the RSPB's attacks on shooting and grouse moor management.

Either way unless the members vote either with their feet or their ballot papers the show will continue.

Incidentally I didn't realise he had been in charge for so long. Even Red Ken admitted to the existence of Cronyism....

Unfortunately noises have been made several times. About a number of differnt issues, all to no avail.

Swift and his crony's have remained at the top table with their noses firmly planted in the feed trough.

The apathy and disinterest shown by the vast majority of the membership especially those of us who have been around for some time is hardly surprising given the number of times "The Management" have survived the numerous attempts to oust them from their power base.

As having been about for a fair while, ( I do remember paying my dues when the W.A.G.B.I. sign hung in Watergate st),I feel I can again second the above posting/reply.Steve.
