I did"nt want to use the suppressor on my .243 when I go to Arran, so I tried working up a load and re zeroing without it fitted.
After a shooting a lot of rounds, I could"nt get
anything like the groups I had been getting with the suppressor.
I put it back on and the groups shrank back down.
Has anyone had experience with muzzle brakes or anything like a Browning boss?
I am moving to Canada shortly and can"t take the suppressor with me there either.
I can still try some other powders, but I"m wondering if the rifle just won"t shoot as well without a can.
good shooting

BT,
what thread have you got on the end I may be able to find an old muzzle brake for you to try.. I fitted one to an o'l friends 308 and he said it was the first time that he was able to see the deer getting hit through the scope because it tamed the recoil so..
One thing for certain is you wont have many friends shooting a muzzle brake..

griff

Griff,
I don"t have many friends anyway thanks! Big Grin
It"s the standard 1/2" thread, whatever pitch that is. I only ever shot it once before without the suppressor, and I don"t remember it grouping so bad. That was with Rel 19, but I don"t think it"s just the powder.
If you have a brake, I would like to try it just to see if it fixes it.
good shooting

brass thief,

How is the barrel bedded? Does it have a contact point or is it free floated? Check this, with and without the Mod in place...

Regards,

Pete

Pete,
Rifle is pillar bedded, all floating. Accuracy with the suppressor is better than I can shoot, it"s just when I take it off that the problems start.
good shooting

Problem might be solved!
I was out again today with another different load.
I was getting 1" or less with Sierra pro hunters and BLC2, so a little more fiddling is needed but the rifle will shoot ok without the can.
good shooting

Once the brake was removed wouldn't the barrel need to be recrowned ?

308 I have never removed a break but thought maybe the factory cut the barrel then threaded it,threaded the brake on and the crown was in the brake. Remove the brake and it may be just a cut off barrel thats not cut square. Just my two cents or another angle to look at.
