Tuff Pak in the UK???

My new Storm rifle case arrived today via the courier TNT and it did not survive the journey! Roll Eyes

The case itself had a 4" crack near one of the hinge bumpers and the two halves of the case did not seal properly for about a 10" length because of poor quality moulding...

The carboard box the case came in had been patched with parcel tape at both ends and in a spot that corrisponded to the damaged hinge..I have no idea whether this was done by TNT or when it was shipped to the distributers..

I have emailed the people I bought the case asking for them to arrange for it to be collected and for a refund..if it gets broken that easily, it makes you wander wha the airlines will do with it...

So it looks like I might need to go with a Tuffpak after all as there are not many other quality plastic cases available in the UK although it does seem a very bulky case for just one rifle...

I know that Tuffpak has (or had?) a distributor up in Scotland somewhere and I recall seeing there website, but google is not showing any signs of it..Anybody know the name of the shop or have any other suggestions??

Regards,

Pete

I have used my Tuf-Pak on one hunt to Africa and one hunt to Canada. I like it a lot.
Remember the Tuf-Pak is designed to hold much more than just your rifles. That is the beauty of it.

I got a quote a couple of months ago for delivery of a Tuffpak to the UK, it was about $250. Last year in May I travelled to Jo'burg from Heathrow and used a Hoppes single rifle case with no problems. I am planning on using the same case this year.

Mark,

Firstly welcome to the forums!

With regards the Tuffpak, not only would you have to pay that $250 for shipping, but HM C&E would want a slice of the action too...I am pretty sure they calculate their cut on the total cost of the item including the postage charges, so I would bet it might end up costing any where from £400 to £500!

I have not seen the Hoppes Case, but I know one or two other people who have used cheap and cheerful Gunguard cases costing £30 and thier guns arrived safely...Trouble is, its a bit of a lottery depending on how the case is treated and that makes me very nervous...

Regards,

Pete

Thanks Ed,

Although the site does not show much, there is a link to Tuffpak, so it must be the place...I have been searching high and low for that all weekend! Roll Eyes

The only thing about the Tuffpak is that it seems "over kill" for one rifle??? I suppose its saving grace is that you can pack other goods in there as well...

I can certainly see why so many folks like take down rifles such as those by Sauer and Blazer..it must make travelling so much easier...

Regards,

Pete

Pete,
It can seem like overkill but you can so much other gear in there you can almost use a carry on for the rest. Why not take a shotgun as well. You never know!!

Ed,

I'm not really into shotguns, but I get your point...

I had a good look at the crack in the case yesterday and the plastic in that area is ab out 1/4"; it really is very substantial...It beggers belief what TNT did to it to damage it like that..

I contacted the people I bought the case from this morning and their response has been very good and their comittment to customer service seems to be very genuine. Before nameing names i will see how this plays out...luckily I did not leave buying the case till last minute so I have some time to get things sorted..

Regards,

Pete

Pete,

Last year I was looking for a two rifles’ case and Tuff Pak was my first priority.
After contacting Sloan in Scotland and Mims Reid (Harry) in the USA I had to give up! The price of the case and the cost of getting it shipped to Portugal were incredibly high!

In the end I decided on buying a Pelican case and so far I haven’t regretted my decision!

The Peli cases are great. They are airtight and can withstand great abuse. We have an account here in work and I can get them at wholesale cost.

The problem with flying with them is the weight. I don't have the caralogue to hand, but the model 1750 for a full length rifle weighs about 5kg empty.

Great for the back of the car/4x4 trip to Scotland.

Brian.

From what I can see, the Pelicase, starlite and storm cases are pretty similar with more or less the same features. The materials might be different, but I would expect the would perform about the same. Certainly weight is an issue with all the cases mentioned being heavier than say the Tuffpak..

Pete

I got my Tuffpak from Sloans.

I'd offer you mine but Edmac has beaten me to it.

Richard and Ed,

I would like to thank both of you for the offer, plus one or two others who offered privately via emails..I am very much hoping to have a case of my own sorted one way or another before too long, but if I am still stuck near the time, it is good to know I can rely my AR friends for help!

Thanks again, its appreciated!

Pete
