Last day in the Rat Race today!

UKhunterLast day in the Rat Race today!
24 years in the City.
Some good times (mostly) some terrible times.
I've met some great people, made some long lasting friends (Fallow Buck for one).
I've also worked with a few reall A-holes.
I was that CDS trader....I caused the Credit Crunch!
Today I leave my current employer after nearly 10 years, during which time I have worked for the most insiprational person ever, and also for someone who turned out be be a very real crook.
Overall....good times.
Next stop is going to be something very different: I have bought some land and have a bunch of houses to build.
I'm ready (but sad too).
Count experiences, not possessions.

Stu CWow, CDS trader to house builder. That's a decent sort of career change.
Best of luck to you.

I don't wish to appear cynical ...... but
It always makes me smile when I read or hear that.

It usually means someones going to pick up a half completed development site cheap in 18 month-2 years time. No more fat cat bonuses, no more creaming off the profits, no more 3-5 hours lunches at the clients expense.

Welcome to the real world of hard graft and ball breaking labour.
The very best of luck. I really do mean that.

Steve LathamBy your description of what you are moving on to, it was'nt you with the cardboard box after clearing your desk

, so I wish you well with your venture & hope you don't come up against any of the ilk that you are leaving behind.

Steve.

28 November 2009, 00:42

A minor blip on the downward spirell mate. The Dubai World collapse is just the start of another round of multi billon dollar debt announcements.
There are a good few more out there teetering on the brink and we haven't even touched the far east risk.
You'd better squeeze those but cheeks together real tight as we are all in for another right arse whooping.

UKhunterHey Tom:
"No more fat cat bonuses, no more creaming off the profits, no more 3-5 hours lunches at the clients expense.

Thanks a friggin lot for your sincere words of encouragement.
You clearly have NO idea of the realities of working 11 or 12 hour days every day for 24 years. Five hour lunch? Not once in all that time.
You want to try hard graft? Try the modern dealing room where the bottom 20% get fired every single year....you have no idea mate.
If you know of any half finished developments going cheap....send me a PM mate. I'm a buyer of such projects and will pay an introducer's commission if you bring me any that I buy.
Count experiences, not possessions.
28 November 2009, 23:57
Tom MixWhilst the words might not have been too encourageing they were most certainly sincere. Including the wishing you the best of luck.
11-12 hours days are the norm for a lot of people not just city traders. The annual loss of the dead wood is standard in most performance dependent working environments, its not as if they make a secret of the fact before you start.
My usual finders fee is 12.5% of the purchase price plus expenses. 2.5% payable at introduction the balance within 10 days of completion.

I have always viewed such signs with suspicion.
4 characters 2 words, 4 characters 4 words. Just doesn't ring true.

I'll have you know sir that the quote in the sig line is a genuine reply given by an outraged American on a thread I posted about not liking synthetic rifles.
I thought about and decided that whilst it could be seen as a little coarse, it was from the heart and showed a sort of directness rarely seen in this day and age.
That and i imagine it being delivered by R. Lee Emery.

Steve,
Kiri likes to know where I am...he muttered something about a near-by sheep farm, but I'm not sure what he meant!

Fallow BuckHey Howa,
How's it going? Good to see you are still hanging about. How did you get on with the boar? IIRC i think it was you taht was conducting an experiment with them?
LH,
I heard about your antics out lamping.... Personally I blame Amir as these things seem to always happen when he is around...

Rgds,
K
