Lorenzo,

I am starting to doubt my computing skills!
I posted (or so I thought) a reply to your questions but it doesnt show on the thread!

So here it goes again:

I used a 9,3x62 rifle as Johan anticipated (but we better not let him know it was a Blaser R93. )

I used hand-loads:

- RWS brass
- Vihtavuori N140 powder
- Lapua Mega 286 Grns bullet

The wild boar was shot at about 45 meters. The bullet entered behind the right shoulder, through the top of the heart and lungs and stopped under the skin on the front half of the left shoulder.
This was the first Mega bullet I have ever recovered. It seems the bullet tends to open really quick, as the entrance wounds are really very large when compared with exit wounds.
The bullet retained about 73% of its weight.
I will post pictures of carcass and bullet later on, and see if someone can help me to understand what is really happening with these bullets.

I'm very interested in Mega bullets performance, since I plan to use them for the incoming hunting season. Anyway I believe that 73% of retained weight is a good result - Lorenzo

Hi,

I shot this one down south (Vidigueira), from one of the 5 stands we have there.
I was on stand n.5 and that was the only boar that showed up that night. At stand n.3 a guy that we invited had four boars (2+2) coming to the bait, fired twice but missed both!.

I feel sorry for the boars that are beeing shot with a blaser r-93 , It must a be abit tragic to die by such a crappy rifle

Cheers

Johan,

I have to agree with you! I simply cant tell how sorry I felt for that wild boar!

I felt so sorry, and ashamed, for it that I am speeding up the tuning of a CZ550 (9,3x62) I bought in order to replace the Blaser R93.

b.martins,
well done, because I think that the next time the boar will get up refusing to die when hitted by a Blaser .

Good boar very nice , and OK for the bullets the Lapua it's a fast expanding bullet 73 % of the weight it's right for a conventional bullet as it's , if it don't desintegrate it's OK , you hit the boar very close , I use the Lapua bullet in a .300 H&H and happy with them , I prefer the fast expanding bullet over the Fails safes or Barnes X , on the Monteria you need to stop the game if possible on the spot .

Saludos

Daniel,

For montaria I have been reloading my rifles with Gpa, Rws, Lapua Mega and Sellier & Bellot SP.
For high seat hunt I am using Lapua and S&B as these two bullets are very similar and I get the same POI without any changes to the load.
Last year I recovered most of the S&B bullets from the wild boars I shot. The bullets mushroomed perfectly most of the time. This year I am using mainly the Mega bullet and I am not getting the same nice mushrooms like I was getting from the less expensive S&B, because until now I hadnt recovered a single one!
With the S&B the boars used to drop on the spot but with the Lapua they tend to run between 10 and 50 meters!

Hola B.Martins

I hunt with a 9,3 x 64 the best bullet for me the KS
247 grains , I test the Oryx from 232 bullets and it's bit light for the x 64 and big deer I shot some small deer with the S&B but not as efective as the KS , the worst bullet I try was the H-Mantel , excesive penetration from the rear part and to fragile the front , the game never react to a solid hit , in Africa I shoot a faco in the heart , and it run nearly 100 meters you can follow easily with all the blood spread , and I think it's a miss because they run so fast ...

Daniel,

Do you hand-load?
If so, what are your pet loads for the x64?
I bought a 9,3x64 rifle last year that I intend to take to Africa on my next DG safari, but I still have to develop the loads for it.

Cumprimentos,

B.Martins

Hi Daniel,

I have placed my orders for Vihtavuori powder directly with a Vihtavuori agent. As they import only twice or three times a year I usually keep a reasonable stock of powder.
In case you can't find it in Spain we can see what we can do about.

Cumprimentos,

B.Martins
