Hi,
When you get to Ye Olde England and ask if you can do some hunting you will likely be told that riding to hounds has been banned. In England the pursuance of deer with a rifle is called stalking. There's plenty of stalking to be had for a paying rifle, (the name given to a paying guest stalker), Try doing some searching on, stalking England.
As for the ammunition go to; http://www.kynochammunition.co.uk they list the 450 no 2 as being available. You might want to ask them who sells it in London. They do have an American agent, who or where I don't know the search will provide that information.
Hope this helps.
Enjoy your trip to England.

Mike,

There are quite a few "upper end" gun shops in London which may or maynot be to your taste..Purdy's, Holland and Holland, William Evans, Boss and J Roberts (aka the old Rigby's) to name the famous ones.

J Roberts are my favourite, not because they are the biggest, but because they are more focused on real hunters and shooters, rather yuppies as some of the others appear to be..

Robert's can probably get hold of the ammo you need, but you might need to order it in advance and there will be some red tape to work around too..The only feasible way might be for them to ship it back directly to a FFL dealer in the States..I suspect the ammo will be expensive too, damn expensive as its not call for much these days..

If you intend bringing in your own rifle to hunt, you will need to get a Visitors Firearms Permit. To get this you need a British "sponsor", usually the person you are going to stalk with, and they willactually do the paperwork on your behalf..I would imagine you will need to start the process at least 6 weeks before you arrive and there is a fee of around $25..the process varies slight from Police Force to Police Force depending where your sponsor lives which is why I am a bit vague..You need to nominate in advance which rifle your bringing and provide serial numbers ect so no last minute changes of mind! Something in the .243Rem to .30-06 would be fine..No handguns or bows..

Commercial stalking should not be a problem as there is no red tape surrounding this, ie no tags, or draws. Many visitors borrow a rifle off their host and again there is no red tape involved in that. Around London, Fallow, Roe and Muntjac are going to be your likely quarry. At a guess, I would say costs will vary from about $120 per day for "cull" animals, to $500 per day for medal class animals.

If I still had my own stalking, you would be very welcome to come out with me but I gave my lease up earlier this year. I still have limited access to some via a Club I am in, but their lease arrangement stipulates "no guests" unfortuneatly..

Still stay in touch, and if i pick anything up in the mean time, we'll sort something out..

Regards,

Pete
