Roe Deer in Spain or France

My wife and I are planning a two-week trip to Spain and France next year...either in May or June.

Our focus will mainly be touring wineries, sightseeing, and eating lots of good food. However, if possible I would like to work in a short 2-3 day hunt for Roe Deer. Im not looking to spend a fortune and I just want a good representative Roe buck...and a clean comfortable place for both of us to stay. Which country would be best to consider?

Does anyone have any recommendations? I have never been to Europe and don't really know where to start on the research.

Spain is very expensive for Bucks so I'd go to France.

You're taking a two week vacation so time isn't a major constraint. My suggestion is to hunt both countries. As an American, part of the attraction to hunting in Europe is experiencing regional hunting traditions. France and Spain are different and I think it's worthwhile to experience both. Roe deer are cheap and abundant. They don't get expensive until you venture further east in my experience.

Arjun Reddy books hunts in France, Orchape books hunts in France and Chassorbis books hunts in France. The first two are AR members, but you ought to be able to Google any or all of the three.

You should rather go April or May for roe. June can be a bit difficult to find good bucks, depends on the area too.
In Spain you could hunt an ibex at the same time too, but bucks are more expensive. However deals are possible in spain too.

I organize hunts in both countries and are happy to help.

You could hunt roe bucks in Austria for $1000-1800 out the door for a standard sized buck and probably get it done in two days.

Spain and France are both almost as big as Texas, what are you trying to see?

I used to live in Spain and I live 30 minutes from the French State of Alsace Lorane. Send me a PM and I'll give you some pointers.

You could shoot a representative buck here in Germany for about $1000-1300 maybe cheaper.

The probably is unless you are flying 20 times, the it things to see in Spain and France are a long ways apart. Lots of rental car miles. Train wouldn't be bad.

After doing a moderate level of research....I've discovered that many of the hunting outfits over there are absolutely insanely expensive. (I was quoted $5500 for a single Roe buck)

Our main reason for the trip is to visit the various wine regions (namely Champagne, Bordeaux, and Rioja). But I was hoping to spend 3 days hunting at a place where my wife can relax and enjoy the lodge while I hunt. I'd like to at least shoot one or two representative Roe bucks....with perhaps another inexpensive animal, if possible. However my budget for the hunting portion of our trip is roughly $3,000-$3,500 USD.

Any ideas on how to get the most "bang for the buck" would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Here in Denmark a roebuck on the average cost Dkr3000(aprox usd450) if one goes to buy(hunt)one at a estate. Females might be around Dkr2000.
Here you get to keep the meat.

The big red stag costs about dkr 35000(usd5500)

In Poland one can get to hunt(cul) female roebucks Dkr 300 a´piece.

The problem is that whether we are talking Africa, US or Mongolia..all hunting are advertized(and priced) as trophyhunting. If one doesn´t care about tapemeasure trophies but only wants the hunt and the challenge of it he may write 90% of all outfitters off the list.

Spain in particular has within the last 5 years been popular and the prices for just swatting a flue increases every year. Prices are set to what the market can carry and may not reflect the actual cost.

How about a gredos ibex? They even list corzo on there, so roe deer might be available as well. The auction took place earlier in the year, so I believe they are now selling the left-over permits. Not sure on the timing of your trip and the season but wouldn't hurt to ask.

Contact the Reserve directly

http://www.cabramontes.es/

You can find very good pricing on permits, especially for smaller (non-gold) animals. The reserve provides, and requires, local game wardens on the hunt, so don't worry about not having a hired guide. You will of course need to put in some time to get all of your paperwork, licenses, and permits in order, but it is very doable. I did this a few years ago and I figure I saved about 40% off the quoted price from outfitters.

You might also want to contact this guy. He's a top taxidermist in Spain and has many connections and you might get some spanish pricing vs american pricing on a hunt you are looking for.

Sorry for my late reply. If you're still interested for an hunting trip in France you can contact this man. https://www.sudchasse.net/chas...roch-brocard-tir-ete
He offers roe buck hunting in the south-west of France and every year he get more or less 250 tags.
The roe buck hunting starts the June 1st in France and for this animals his price are pretty good. For a roebuck the price is ~ 380 € + 100 € more if it's a medal. The daily rate with 2 outings is 200 € and for the accomodation you have the choice (camping, guest house, hotel...).
I hunted red deers with him last week-end and I had a blast Wink
