I was wondering if European outfitters such as those in Hungary etc. have rifles that can be used by clients. I am frequently in Germany, and have met the local Jagermeister for Lindorf (near Stuttgart). He was very happy to take me hunting, but he said that I would have to use one of my own rifles, as he cannot lend me one. Due to the nature of my travels here, it is not practical to bring any guns from the US with me. So I was hoping that if I were to book a hunt with outfitters in Hungary etc., I would be able to rent/use an outfitters gun. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul.

In Hungary the organizators manage the problem with the local hunters, so it is possible to rent a rifle, sometime it is good, sometime not. it depend by the richness of the hunting zone and of the hunter bye Stefano Waidmannsheil

Thanks gentlemen for you replies. On the Hungarian website above I was unable to get it in English (when I clicked the English button it was still in Hungarian). As my Hungarian is limited to "Yo regellt", I would prefer an English version. Does anyone know if other countries such as Italy, Czech and more allow a hunter to rent a firearm? Thanks again, Paul. Not in Italy, our laws permit to lend a gun to another people that has the hunting permission, but I did not and do not find anything about the possibility for a foreigner to book a hunt in Italy. In Italy the hunt is permitted only to the appointed of a hunting licence. I know that someone has hunted in Italy, but I belive that it has been done having an Italian hunter as figurehead, who has passed the rifle some moment before the shot and taked it back some moment later. bye Stefano Waidmannsheil

Paul, I have been told, but I do not know if this is entirely accurate, that in the Czech Rep you can only borrow or hire a firearm for which you already hold a license for in your home country. So presuming you had a license for a 308win at home, you could hire such a rifle in Cz. I don't know how this would help someone coming from the states where licenses aren't required for long arms. As I said, this is hearsay, not gospel. Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Thanks again for the replys. In California, there is no requirement for a gun license, so I would be out of luck there - I would only have a Safety Cert and Hunting License. And my only gun in Ireland is a .22LR - which I doubt would be up to the job on boar!! I had some luck on a UK based Hungarian hunting webpage, which states that they can arrange to rent a rifle for 29 pound sterling a day, with each round costing #2.50!! Must be gold plated ammo eh? Thanks Steve also for your time. My sisters boyfriend is Italian, and he said he could help me out with a boar hunt - maybe he can do the same thing with the rifle. Never use a cat's arse to hold a tea-towel.
