Turkish wild boar hunt

I have just returned from a wild boar hunt in Turkey.

When we left our primary idea was to make two driven hunts per day and to complement with some night stalks (for the less fortunate on the driven), taking advantage of the full moon period.
In the end it turned out that the driven hunts were a disaster: - one wild boar killed after twelve or thirteen driven!
The fact that there were nine hunters on our group didnt help either on the stalking part! Too many hunters for the area!

Most of my hunting companions, on this trip, have already been to Turkey more than once, but this was my very first.
And (beginners luck, I presume!) I was the one that the Goddess favoured the most: six nights=six stalks=five big bodied wild boars=four big tuskers!

I enjoyed the night hunting very much.
It was something I had never experienced: trying to get as much close as possible to a huge boar (150-180 Kgs) that you can only perceive as a shadow, and realizing that when you can see it well enough to take a sure shot you are at about 30-40 meters from the beast!
It sure keeps your adrenalin level high!

Most of the photos were taken during the night;, and I am really a lousy photographer, so the quality is not that good.

Weidmannsheil! Nice piggies! Do I detect a fascination by the tusks... . Some of the night stalking stories I have heard (read about) from Turkey, had the stalker wear only socks. Did you stalk the critters in stockings only? (I'm talking footwear only, here - naturally )

Yes Mike. Tusks do fascinate me, and probably most of the hunters.

I had to take my boots off just for one stalk.

Doug:

Thanks for correcting my English. FANGS is the word I was missing!

Just as a side note: the designation of the wild boar teeth in Portuguese would sound strange in English if direct translated:
-We call the lower teeth Navalhas (Knives) and the upper ones Amoladeiras (Grinders/Sharpners).
