Gentlemen,
Ok, those that have invested money in a roe trophy jig, I know we are all mostly of the opinion that the saws are not upto much but what is the alternative?
Have always used a fine cross cut saw and cutting by 'eye', but now have at my disposal a jig. Used a long fine hacksaw blade today, but there must be a better alternative.

Ideas please..

Hi NW

I have one of those jigs too, and you are correct, the saws are pretty useless.

I reckon a fine toothed blade on a electric sabre saw is a better alternative. Screwfix www.screwfix.com do a selection.

Careful though. That website is builder's porn. It can be addictive.

Deerdogs,

The price of these saws seem a bit much, thinking along the lines of a hacksaw blade that will fit in a metal runner to make it rigid, but will still fit in the small gap in the jig.

Any thoughts?

Hows about the long blade welded to the base of a jigsaw blade. Placed in an electric jigsaw - the skull can then be sawed in the jig without so much effort!

The sabresaw is an easy option provided you manage to find a blade that allows use of the jig.

Good question, I haven't found a decent saw to do it and haven't tried a sabersaw, all I know is after I get a few ready to cut I go find a band saw, which is a great way to go. Maybe you know of a woodshop somewhere nearby that will let you use one occassionally, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

Ian, I cut them after they are boiled and scraped. Granted, a little more work but less mess. Freezer always seems to be too full, WH Dom.
