The hunt was in Czempin, an hours drive from Poznan. We booked the hunt through a norwegian agent for LB jaktreiser (LB hunting trips) in Denmark. Czempin is a state run hunting preserve. They have a large conference centre there, where they do hunting and shooting classes and so forth.
I used my Blaser R8 success in 6.5x55, with a 140 grains Nosler Accubond bullet. Muzzle velocity at about 800 m/s. The bullet passed through the machine room and made mush out of the longs before it exited behind the shoulder. It performed admirably, as Accubond always do.
The hunt was fantastic! The area is extremely well managed. When I shot this bruiser I heard 10+ mature stags roaring nearby. I have a mobile phone clip of this stag roaring minutes before I shot him

. I have hunted in several countries around the world, but this is by far the most exiting hunting I have ever done!
The area is criss-crossed by forest tracks, and these are prepared with a lawn mower just before the hunt. The guide and I (1 on 1) heard him calling, and we went around to intercept him when I saw a doe, and then another. The guide put the sticks up, and when the stag crossed the road he whispered "Shiessen, shiessen!" (Shoot, shoot!). I had asked for a stag in the 5 kg area, and I thought nothing off it and shot while the stag crossed the road. I had a few seconds to evaluate the situation, and listened to the guide. First shot just behind the shoulder. The stag turned as I squeesed off shot #2 which was a clear miss. Then he lowered his antlers and ran straight at us! I gave him one more pill in the chest from straight forward, and he was down. He was dead on his feet after the first bullet, but in a situation like this I want to keep on shooting until the animal is down. When we walked up to him I saw that this trophy was waaaay heavier than 5 kg....

Well, I had some explaining to do at home (.... honey, you know that vacation that we have been talking about....

). Well, this is a fantastic trophy, and once it has been paid in full I am sure that I will never again think that it was worth it!
Here is a pic taken from behind, with my rifle in the antlers. The crowns are fantastic!
