The big boys are just starting to get into it here in Southern England.

I was out this morning and shot this beautiful old buck with a client, it had been seen for the last few years and will have passed his genes on over the last few years. Two younger bucks were also rutting in the same field, both with the potential to be like him one day.

I expect he will make CIC Gold and would estimate his net weight will be around 550g.

Seems to be building nicely into a good rut... we shall see...

700 Grams Gross a few hours after boiling, estimation was pretty good. I would expect a pretty good volume score also, so fingers crossed at about 140-150 CIC.

Just got this one today - rut time - came to a call. I wasn't going to shoot it, however my 13 y.o. bitch was watching it over my shoulder. Older buck - nothing to write home about - dedicated to my dog, along with a 100m blood trail (might be her last). Knew this buck for 2 years - place is remote - I had to carry it in my backpack uphill for an hour or so...sure one of those days...

Sat up and stalked last night until dark.

Saw four Does.

Was there a horny buck anywhere???
Was there b***ocks!

So a fox got his come-uppance instead.

I was out last night too. They started coming as per 21:00 and I saw 16 Roedeer, comprising 3 bucks, 2 of which being out of range. At 21:30 (nearly night), the old fellow I'm after since weeks came out of the woods at 200 meters, moved around for 20-30" and, pushing a doe, took her along and back to cover. I never met such a wily buck ; I see him at every outing but... only for seconds, always on the move and he never ventures farther than 10 m away from the shrubbery ! He must have had some previous experiences for he sure learned the lesson...

BTW, at this date and warm weather notwithstanding, I still get the impression that rut came very late and remains rather timid. I haven't seen bucks fighting or mating so far.

At last, I finally got him last night at 21:30, a nice 6-pointer at that ! However I was in for a surprise : his antlers were completely entangled in electrical wire, the kind used in electric fences. I wonder how much time and effort it took him to tear off thread by thread. Also, this is rut time and in a fight with another dominant buck, both animals could/would end up deadlocked and die a miserable death...

Alex, nice buck. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Mouse, thanks for sharing, nice video.

Andre, good you got the buck. I am sure he had a long and hard fight to tear himself loose.
A very nice buck.

Have a good day.
