Very nice. Where was the impact and how far did the boar travel? You must be getting into busy season with driven hunting kicking off.

7x64 Hornady SST - liver shot - you can see peritoneal membrane that bullet draged out on its way out - pig went for 200m or so and was found dead in the stream as seen on pic.

303 - some of Chamois do stay below the forest border (below 1500 m - a.s.l.)

Still haven't extracted the bragging photo that my hunting buddy took, but 2 weeks ago I got a nice little 8-point red stag. After spooking a couple other deer, this one came at me over a ridge, turned around and took off, but returned with doe and calf. When he stopped at 75 yds, I got a clean shot and he fell to a 250 gr Norma Oryx from my Husqvarna mod 1651 in 358 NM. This happened about a half mile from a tractor road, and in the snow he was easy to drag.

And when I came home after hanging the buck in my buddy's garage, my wife had sheep heads in the pot and beer in the fridge. Am I not one lucky SOB...

Bog it was an easy task of follow the blood in the snow...

Quite contrary from today - deadly serious - after vertigo influenced tracking of wounded 1y.o. chamois I have whitnessed a deadly 20m free fall drop of my dog over the cliff - I thought it it was all over...

Luckily it wasn't and we may live to tell another story tomorrow...

Sounds like a close one! A couple of years ago I sent a friend's Bavarian flying down a hillside when I rolled a feral goat down for extraction. Watching that dog do a rotation in the air in slow motion is a moment I won't forget anytime soon. Fortunately, it was unhurt when it touched down!

Extraction was a bugger as the rides are too wet to bring the truck down to the carcass. THEN they told me I could borrow a quad next time.

This years reindeer. Had a fantastic time hunting, but it took 12 days before I finally got my buck. This one is very pale compared to the ordinary reindeer. The reindeers spent a lot of time in the forests this year and hunting them there is a lot more difficult than up in the mountains. I managed to shoot my buck at the border between the mountain and the forest.

I took this one with my Blaser R93 in 6,5x55 using Accubond 140grs. I really like the Accubonds, and for the 6,5x55 one has to load proper hunting ammo as most factory-ammo are downloaded "swedish" versions of the 6,5x55. I dont remember the velocity, but will chronograph my ammo using my new acoustic chronograph.

Wonderful, I like the colour of its coat. Is it worth tanning the hide?
Are the reindeer in mixed groups or in single sex herds at this time of year?

The colour is quite nice and unusual. It is possible to process the hide and end up with a nice and warm rug, or as we did in the army, use it to sleep on when tenting during the winter months. Tanning? I dont know, but i suppose so.

This one was taken september 9. From the very beginning of september the males join the main herds and by september 15. most males have joined and the rut is in effect. Of course unlike most deer, meat from reindeer bucks are not suitable as food during the rut, so one has to be careful and observe the animals a while before shooting.

This one is 31/2 yrs old and perfect for eating. :-)

Have a days informal driven driven phaesant shooting on the 27th with friends, and doubless will get out after a doe or two or even some ducks.

Major highlights of 2012 have getting level 2 Deer Stalking qualification - got a call this morning they had passed my portfolio and certificate is in the post. Also given the all clear for Lymes disease.

In terms of stalking had three reasonable bucks of the piece of ground I manage. One was with my father - we used to hunt regularly when I was younger, but with me living in Edinburgh and him down in Oxford opportunities are few and far between. Sadly he is now pretty lame and not sure if we will get many more chances.

The animals in Norway are celebrating Xmas, so it is not legal for us to hunt from December 24 till January 1......

When you see its eye, one might get the idea that it suffers from Chamois blindness.

I have previously shot a Carpathian Chamois with a similar eye.

Actually when I've cleaned the skull it became appearent that it was caused in a fight by another Chamois perhaps 1 month ago - hook went in almost 2 inches - direction from ear toward nose...

My first thought was that it was an injury it suffered when it fell down the rocks after the shot, but on closer inspection it turned out that it was an "old" injury.

I have no experience with Chamois blindness, so I saw this as another opportunity.

Was up in North for work and managed to squeeze in 2 stalking days. Most of the first day was spent watching driving snow from the front seat of a Ford Ranger. I managed a couple of hinds and a roe on the second day.

Nice fat animal. 53kgs in the larder.
