1894mk2 Junior is getting some shooting lessons. Underneath the Xmas tree this year will be my K95 with new short stock in 5.6x50R.

Even this delectable little cartridge has a little too much bark normaly loaded for an 8yr old. QuickLOAD shows the Samereier cases that reduce capacity to 22hornet levels together with a 26kpsi pressure limit.

Has anyone any experience of these reduced capacity cases?

1894mk2,

Have not tried any of these cases, but have loaded thousands of reduced loads for every imaginable caliber!

Use any of the medium burning pistol powders like UNIQUE.

You can start off with about 25% of the weight of what you would normally load with normal powder, and work up from there.

A wad of tissue paper on top of the powder to keep it down by the primer will help consistency in ignition.

I hope this helps.

The German manufacturer of lead bullets H&N has written a whole book about reduced loads, mostly using Vihta N110. The same powder works fro jacketed bullets too, of course; some VERY light loads with the Samereier cases are mentioned, however they claim that fast powders are not sensitive to position and, to a certain degree, load density.

We have had several discussions here regarding Blue Dot powder for reduced loads. I can confirm that this powder works for all calibers I tried so far and that includes the .222 which is not too different from the 5,6x50R.

Find someone who has Quickload and calculate some scenarios, then load up very carefully because "reduced loads" with fast powders are NOT low-pressure loads! Possibly for exactly this reason these powders work so well?

I forgot to mention: Those adapter cases for airgun bullets and shotshell primers are GREAT fun, especially for the kids!

Saeed - I have some Unique and will try it - many thanks

The air rifle pellet shotgun cases were very interesting - any idea of what sort of accuracy can be expected?

Hello 1894mk2,

did you had a look at the samereier (german)website? http://www.samereier.de/ladetabelle_org.htm has load data for the 5,6x50R with Bullseye and N110.

The air rifle pellet shotgun cases mentioned should be ok for 10 yrds plinking & exercise.

Cheers
Roman
