Sika deer, blue ibex, red stag, fallow deer.

John Fenton in Wicklow has a good reputation for sika deer. Not sure what a blue ibex is, though I have shot a pile of feral goats in Ireland. Personally, I wouldn't pay to hunt these - they can be a target of opportunity while hunting deer on forestry ground although I understand some guides now want trophy fees for the big billys.

AIU Ireland is great, but there is no such thing as blue ibex. Likely a feral goat as Boggy alludes to. Also watch out for the Irish mountain sheep... Red deer in Ireland are now pretty much all hybrids with the only pure strain being in Kerry where they are protected. The Fallow and Sika however are excellent. Pack your waterproofs and enjoy!! I'm hoping to hunt some Irish Sika in Wicklow in a couple of weeks all things going to plan. K

Here's what they refer to as a "Blue ibex" or also a "blue mountain ram". As mentioned, it's a feral goat.

OMG - I've got a silver medal 'Blue Ibex' trophy on the wall and I didn't even know it! Although, to be accurate, it should be called the 'Smells vaguely like a stale urinal Ibex'.

Even rarer, how about the Irish 'Golden Ibex' (although on a warm day it smells like a golden shower ibex...)?

Adam, That's too funny. I only had the horns mounted with mine and I have it on the credenza in my office. The girls at the office complain that it stinks! I can only imagine what a pedestal or shoulder mount would smell like.

Only the first one is mine - loathed by my wife, he lives in the man-cave. Fortunately, my very skilled taxidermist here in the UK - Phil Leggett - did a brilliant job of getting rid of the smell, so there's only a faint whiff on incontinence on a warm day. Also, I have teenage sons, so no goat on earth smells as bad as a 17 year old boy's bedroom or wherever they've discarded their skate shoes... The pedestal mount belongs to a mate in Sweden and is a shining example of the fact that goat taxdermy should not be placed below nostril height and near a heater! Adam.

Have you not tried getting Mr. Leggett to pay some attention to your offspring.

He was in camp the same time I was there. I road out to the Wicklow mountains with him and his cameraman. I haven't seen his show yet. Ironically, Todd and Tia Cast with TNT Outdoor Explosion were also there hunting and filming. They were a great couple and we had a lot of fun during our trip. It was neat watching their show and know I was in the background of some of it.

Just two weeks ago I joined a group from Norway on a sika hunt in Wicklow. John Fenton was the man. He's got some great areas! Lot's of sika, beautiful scenery and well run operation. I'm making a DVD of this, but will return for a rut hunt in a few years. Make sure you book well in advance if you want a big stag (=rut)... Had a look for that on YouTube and found it. Well any man who sits down to eat his dinner indoors wearing a hat is lacking some social graces,at least in Ireland. Somewhere down in Kerry I think there is a furious farmer looking for who shot his Soay and Jacobs sheep
