I was out last night with a mate who had never beeen out stalking before. We sat up in a seat and with 30 mins to go, out walked three bucks. For those of you that know "Dad's Army", the stalking equivalent of "DON'T PANIC!!! DON'T PANIC!!!" ensued while he tried to hand me back the rifle I thought they would never stop, but the 2yo came clear at about 90yds, and I gave him the news. The other two ran in a big circle and the next worst buck came round to see what was going on with his sleepy mate. He found out too. Problem was he ran... and ran and ran and ran!!! As he stopped on the brow of the hill I could clearly see the exit wound and plenty of claret. We picked him up about 600yds away with the engine room completely busted up. In fact this buck was better hit than the first, and must have been running on pure adrenaline. I really hate it when they do that... Either way, Chris loved the experience, and can't wait to come out again. FB

Weidmannsheil! It is indeed most enervating when deer decide to run off after the shot. Alas, it (occasionally) happens regardless of what caliber/bullet I have ever tried, big caliber or small. The good thing about the bigger calibers, though: they leave a better bloodtrail. - mike

Imagine of difficult things get when the deer decides to do that in young Sitka Spruce? Glad you got them both though, Regards, Pete
