Thinking of putting one on a 308 for all around use inside of 400 yards How do you like the flashdot ? How does the #7 reticle work at distance Any personal feedback?

I dont have a S&B but a similar scope i use it for all kind of hunt mostly driven hunts. Its very versatile i have used it for wildboar at night and it worked and deer stalking. The limits i have felt is at a evening hunt its difficult to see the pensil of a roe deer with the low magnification and in night wildboar i had wished for a bigger ocular. Take a look at the new scopes with 10x mag gear as Leica Magnus and Meopta meostar R2. Of course a high qvality Smith & Bender would make you happy too.

400 yards is way out for a 6x - Rather then get the Zenith 3-12x42 mm. Santa Claus

At the risk of completely side tracking the OP thread, I don't entirely agree that 6 power is inadequate magnification for 400 yards. I wouldn't mind more magnification, however I rarely use much more than 10 power on hunting shots (and I shoot a fair way out). Just for the sake of illustration, I took this crapy photo with my phone at the range today. The image through my Kahles 1.5 - 6 set on 6 power. I could easily make out small objects at 400 yards or more. The photo is the scope crosshairs on a rock past the 500 meter line, so going on for 600 yards. Sorry that doesn't help answer the question. Just felt the need to chime in on the adequacy of a 6 power scope for the intended purpose.

I do use 1-6x scope but most of my shots are under 100m maybee 95% under 150m.

I have S&B 1.5 X 6 X42mm its a very clear scope in low light but I thinks 6X zoom is good till 300 yards. Mind you I have a custom reticle cross wire and tapered post without flashdot. They are great scopes.
