Cheshire is probably the English county with the least deer in it. There have been a few reds in the area of the Roches south of Maclesfield which have been there for many years (apparently along with wallabies) but they do not show on the latest distribution maps. There are however reds shown in the New Mills/Whalley Bridge/Macclesfield area and these extend west into Derbyshire pretty much all the way west to Sheffield. There are some muntjac in the Dane valley around Swettenham and a few roe getting into the area south of Macclesfield but not much else. There are more deer in Derbyshire with reds, roe, muntjac and fallow in various places. A good area is just north of a line drawn from Buxton to Chesterfield with all four species present. Another group of reds is based on Sherwood Forest east of the M1 but mostly in South Yorkshire or Nottinghamshire. Having said all this I'm not aware of much commercial stalking available although you could try the Chatsworth or Haddon Hall estates. | |||
