Hi all,

I have I think chosen my next rifle. I am after a Sauer 202 Outback. I believe this to be the synthetic version of the 202 which is take-down-able.

I have a question though, second rifle down here:

Andersons Website

My question is :

Can the fore-sight be removed and the rifle threaded, and then the fore-sight re-fitted behind the threading. Anyone any advice regarding this?

It seems the classic model is available pre-threaded from the factory but I am quite struck on the synthetic outback for the moment.

Many thanks for any help Smiler

ETA: I have found this model:

But my question still stands as now I quite fancy the S202 Forest which is un-threaded.

a mate had his 416 rigby set up in similar way,

he wanted a muzzle brake fitted so the gunsmith made the front foresight so it screwed onto the front like a thread cap. when it wasn't required he just screwed it off and popped on the muzzle brake, with foresight on it looked perfect and the work was pretty damn good and very accurate.

so the answer to your question would be yes.

PM me if you want the smiths details

Kyle - Happy New Year,

From my perspective.....

Moving and re-installing a front sight is normally no big deal on a barrel. The front sights are usually installed using a screw that is tapped into the barrel. The issue is then one of; will the threads for the Moderator "clean up" the hole left by the screw. Sometimes it's a matter of inserting a screw to cover the tapped sight hole and simply threading the barrel over it or cutting the barrel back and doing everything again a couple of cm's past the muzzle.

As for your interest in the 202 Outback Synthetic. If you remove & re-install the front sight to thread so you can accomodate a Moderator using this barrel the flutes in the Fluted Barrel will not be correctly positioned with the muzzle anymore. Depending on where the flutes cease/stop in realtion to the muzzle this may leave you with the dilema of having to attempt to install the front sight in the area of the barrel that is already fluted or very shortly ahead of it. Perhaps not a Show Stopper or even a hinderance but certainly a Watch-Out".

If it was my choice and I had to have or wanted the threaded piece for the Moderator option - I'd purchase a barrel that was already equipped for this.

Cheers,

Thanks very much both of you Smiler

I have phoned a couple of local shops and one has a 202 Classic Synthetic 2007 (The Factory threaded one) in stock so I will be going to look at that next week. Unfortunately it is in .243 not 7x64 so I won't be buying it just yet, but it will give me an idea of the finish and style of the gun!
