To our Swedish friends, does anyone have a cartidge drawing of this round? I have two Rigby slant box actions, one of which will be returned to 303 Brit but the other will be something other; perhaps this round. Thanks in advance.

Hello Tiggertate, you know that the 9,3x57R is not thr rimned version of the 9,3x57Mauser? It is a straight, rimned and something like a shortened version of the 9,3x72R, designed for blackpowder. You can easily reform 9,3x72R-cases by shortening and trimming to 9,3x57R.

Ihanks. I see two references to a 9.3 x 57R. Sometimes it is 9.3 x 57R/360. Are they same round?

I'm looking for a case similar to the 303 to avoid altering the action. I may have to go with an Epps wildcat but though I'd search for a suitable factory round first.

These are the same!
You have looked for the 8x57IRS? You can get very good ammo from several european makers like Norma, Sako,S&B and RWS.

I thought that if the 9.3 didn't work I might drop to the 6.5 x 57R. The 303 could easily be necked to 9.3 or 9.5 for that matter. The 7 & 8 are fine rounds but just not where I wanted to go. One of those irrational preferences so common to gun collecting, I guess.

Would a 375-444(or 9.3-444) Marlin work?

I'd have to do some rail work to get the fatter rounds to function right. These are just now actions but they are original transitional Mauser Ribys so I want to rework tham as little as possible.

I think Ken Waters did a write up on a retooled Rigby Mauser set up for rimmed cartridges. Seems he necked up a 303 to 375 and re-bored the original barrel which was cordite burned. If you're interested I'll look around for the article. Bob

I would appreciate, that Bob. I think the 375/303 in a bolt gun could be made to approximate the full length 375 Flanged. Elwood Epps also fathered a 35/303 that appeals somewhat.

I found the article. It was a 375-303 Rigby built on a slant box mauser. This was a 375 diameter case necked down to 303. This round is in COTW as 303 Axite. Waters had it bored up to 375, and necked down a 444 case to 375 (what is now a 375 jdj I guess). It worked fine in the action. If you PM me with a fax # I'll be glad to fax the article to you. I think I've heard of people doing 405 Winchesters on this kind of action as well. Bob

Well, no wonder I was a little confused. There are 2 articles, the other is converting a slant box Rigby to a 338-303 wildcat. I have both around if you'd like me to fax them. I'll be out of town week of 7/24 but no problem to get them over to you thurs or fri. bob

There are lon ger actions for the 405. This is an intermediate and won't take a round that long without more mods than I want to do.

338-303 huh? That sounds pretty possible too. Lots of bullet weights to play with.
