Hi folks,

I ordered a custom build pistol by Bawo Custom Guns in Germany in .45 ACP and .460 Rowland (based on STI 2011). The main purpose is target shooting with .45 ACP and "back up pistol" when looking or tracing for wounded game or in wild boar territory. I am preparing for reloading .460 by myself, but still looking for some factory ammo in or near my country (Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Poland . . .). I know that .460 is not CIP round, but if anybody know where to get factory ammo, please let me know.

Regards
Jiri

Schmart!! Two barrel system. Find someone with a lathe and develope a jig, to make cases from 308 brass.
You'll have to ream the inside a bit, but, a hell for stout case, loaded for boar.

It is .45 ACP (shown)/.460 Rowland combo. Rowland barrel has a huge muzzle brake. Follow the link for more photos.

I ordered 500 .460 Rowland cases (Starline). I am not sure about case life, but I will not shoot hundreds rounds a month, so I don't care much about brass quality.

I have access to universal lathes, CNC lathes, milling machines etc. So I can do a lot of things on that. What is the main advantage of .460 Rowland case made of .308 in comparison to "factory" .460 Brass?

Jiri, good thing you found some brass. Starline is top notch, think Lapua or RWS. Making it from 308 brass can be tedious and frustrating.
500 should be good for at least 10 shots each, that's an easy estimite. So, 5,000+ shots for your fun gun. Also keep a look out for 45 Win Mag brass, an easy trim and voila! More 460 Rowland brass.

You're going to have a lot of fun.

Cheers
Bruce

Cleaning my toys:

460 Rowland barrel in the pistol. .45 ACP barrel down. You can see white "break in" grease on that. Also .25 ACP baby browning there.

Thanks :-)

The gunsmith, who built this pistol told me, that it is better to break-in it with .45 ACP. So I bought 400 rounds of .45 ACP and I am sighting in it and shooting. It is great, accurate, trigger is very sharp. Everything is tight. I got also some .460 Rowland ammo, but it is "underloaded" so this gun doesn't cycle with it (huge muzzle break and 22 pounds recoil spring). Now, I have 500 cases and 500 bullets, but need to buy primers (CCI300 preferred) and some good powder. It is sometimes hard to get in my country. I will start to shoot .460 barrel after few hundreds .45 ACP will be fired.

Cheers,
Jiri

Jiri if you can find Hodgdon Longshot you'll have the preferred one. I managed to procure an eight pound jug.

I have no idea what the European equivalent would be.

Right now my loads have Winchester primers because they're harder than Federal's large pistol. Harder surface is less primer flow.

If you can locate Buffalo Bore Ammo it'll smash through boars and bears.

Some of my loads are 200 grain semi-wadcutters and some are 250 bullets just like the ones pictured. Both are hardcast, of about 25 BH.

Hodgdon Longshot is available here. I will give it a try and also I will try Vectan SP2 (double base pistol powder). Will try CCI300 primers, these are hardest what I know. Now, I have 200gr Sierra FPJ Match bullets, they are very well made and tough.

There is no .460 Rowland factory ammo in Europe and I don't know anybody in USA with export license, who will be interested in sending me some ammo from USA (for me, import papers are not problem). I would like to try some Underwood, Buffalo Bore and "Johnny's Defense Against Large and Dangerous Game".

Cheers,
Jiri
