Hi all,

I have now got all the details agreed for the AR weekend of Feb 2013.

Dates will be for the 15th to the 17th Feb 2013 to include either three or four outings and two days full board accommodation in the hall. As you know we will have a full meal with desert and wine with each dinner. I'm sure there will be some aperitifs floating about!!

We will arrive on Friday afternoon ready to head out for an evening stalk. We will have two outings on Saturday and a further outing on Sunday morning.

Three outing weekend is £490
Four outing weekend is £590

Trophy fees are as follows:

£95 for Munty bucks of any quality. We saw and shot some nice ones last year.
£50 for Roe does (they have come down in price this year)Each gun may shoot one for the weekend
No charge will be made for the small Munty bucks shot with no visible ivory on the head.

As an aside should Fallow or Red deer make an appearance (as they occasionally do) then does/hinds and spikes will be charged the same as Roe Does at £50. Stags or antlered Bucks will make £350, so keep you fingers crossed for that big red stag to turn up!!!

Each individual outing will again include up to three Muntjac does, and you will be transported around the estate as per usual.

I will bring some extra beers soft drinks and vino for the team.

Pigeon shooting will be available on the Sunday for those that want it for £125/gun fully kitted out. We can sort the finances on this on the weekend if the weather allows for it to go forward. It would however be handy to know who is interested to make sure we have enough kit available.

The Hare shoot proper is now taking place the week before on the 9th Feb at the Wattisham Estate. Cost is £120 per gun. We will be able to fill the days in between with more shooting if anyone would like to make a full week long trip out of this, and add some CWD or Reds. Just let me know and I will see what sort of itinerary we can put in. If anyone really wants to shoot some hares as part of this weekend then let me know and I may be able to line up a smaller day for us either on the Thursday/Friday or the Sunday after stalking. It will be dependant on numbers though, as we need to have enough guns to get the hares shot without them running through the line.

Spaces are limited to 15 this year and I know that we already have a number interested. As such the estate has requested a deposit to be paid to secure bookings as we had several last minute cancellations last year. We will call it £250 per person with the balance paid on location please.

Overseas hunters can have a temporary rifle permit issued for an additional £35. Guys remember that your last years permits will be expired we will need all the data again to reapply.

Rgds,
Kiri

I may well be tied up at the house here then but it just might be an opportunity/excuse for me to get over to the UK and maybe (permits allowing) collect a firearm or two but can you tell me where the hunt takes place and what do you mean by 'the hall' please?

Steve,

The hall is the big country house we stay in. The shoot is located in Suffolk. If you need a permit here we can arrange you one so that you can bring and take rifles from/to portugal.

Shoot is all done from high seats. We are generally frequented by guys that don't like to eat, drink wine or the odd whiskey. We don't talk about guns or hunting and no one has a story to share.

Over all it is really boring and you will hate it.

I probably won't be able to make a decision about it until the new year but assuming I can make it, I'll contact you then and see if there are any vacancies left.

Sorry I can't be more definite now but I'll need to try to work out what the situation will be with builders etc.

I'd like to come though and as you know, I'll fit in tickety boo with the kind of trip you describe. animal

Ok guys that's eight.

Pinky tells me John is probably back on board.

With London hunter that makes ten so I think five/six spaces left.

I love it when a plan comes together.

I can't make it this time unfortunatly. A shame not to be able to join such a great bunch of people. But other hunts has really taken it's toll on my financial situation Wink

I guess there will be some sort of live report, that the unlucky ones can follow? Smiler

Kiri has asked me to sort out the admin' for this year's AR Euro Hunt Weekend, as he's too busy fingering his racks of bespoke Hoxleigh tweed breeks and dusting the new handbag and leather goods collection...I'm not sure what the Greek is for 'Ooooh, Suit you Sir!'

The following people have confirmed their interest in the 2013 AR Weekend at Ampton:

London Hunter
Gerry
Dolan-Bob
Rodney-Bob
Winklemeister
Hunting in Europe
Claret Dabbler
Claret Dabbler's Nigel
Caracal
Caracal's +1
John H
Miles W
Craig W

That makes 12 rifles so far, so there's space for two more and then we're full!

Anyone travelling from outside the UK and needing rifle permits sorting needs to PM their details to Kiri or I ASAP, as there's only 8 weeks until the event and Christmas / New Year will get in the way of two of them.

I'll need contact details for everyone, including the nameless +1s - email, phone and postal addresses, so would be grateful if you could PM these to me or email them to adam@athinahuntingtours.com.

Could you also clarify the number of outings you want and confirm any other additional activities such as extra stalking, other deer species (CWD) or pigeon shooting etc.

However, if you require vegetarian meals you've probably stumbled onto the wrong forum...

Cheers,

Adam.

Just a quick update on arrangements for the AR European Forum Hunt in February:

I have now had all the information I need from the overseas contingent, so the firearms permit application goes in today and your permits will be ready for you when you arrive.

I'll email out payment details for the weekend while I'm in Texas next week.

Lastly, can you confirm if you are staying on on Sunday for the pigeon shooting - that way we can get the decoying kit sorted out and make arrangements with the estate.

Now I just need to arrange the dancing girls and fire juggling midgets and we're all set...

Cheers,

Adam.

I won't be staying for the pigeons, I will head off on Sunday morning.

Ahem, I think you'll find you are banned from putting up any further taxidermy in your house (now I've established that it's the Celt who wears the trousers in chez Fallow Buck)... Whistling

Anyway, your place on the CWD outing is entirely dependent on the successful completion of a visit to the Fort Worth branch of Cabelas whilst we are in Texas this week.

We do; and it's a Hoot.

Every year there's a group of Charter Members and a coupla new faces - all great Guys 'n Gals.

Since the vast majority of us having been going at it pretty much daily and at the least most weekends since September this is a great way to culminate the hunting year.

For what I spent to go to Reno, I could have done this hunt instead. Would have had more fun, and, more importantly, would not have had to go to Reno!

Am talking to a friend and AR member about joining you guys next year for Boar, or maybe this hunt. Do you usually do it in February?

Btw, just figured out what CWD is. Here, CWD is a very bad term (Chronic Wasting Disease) our deer's version of "mad cow"! I see its Chinese Water Deer.

Yes, it’s true! SCI’s Convention is the most dynamic and diverse hunting show today. You will find it to be the most powerful buying and selling environment in the outdoor industry. Mark your calendars and please join us for the 2013 Convention January 23 - 26, 2013, as we are returning to Reno for our 41st Anniversary.

Wendell,

The SCI Convention in Reno has a 2.5 week gap between it & our AR Weekend - where's the schedule conflict?

Grab a cheap-o plane ticket today to the London area, Gatwick, Stanstead, Luton or Heathrow and arrive by Friday, 14 February you can use my rifle ..... a K95 Blaser in 7x57R w/Zeiss 3-9x50?

Not long to go now guys.

We shot the hares at Wattisham yesterday and I was speaking to Ricky who tells me there are a few nice bucks kicking about again.

One that she sees regularly is apparently quite spectacular, but Sod's law says we won't see him!!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone again,

Brian, you decided on a plan yet?

Too much time away from home/office. January was ridiculous with hunting and conventions. I am planning on the 2014 hunt though.

Thanks for the offer to use your gun. A friend is building me a custom 9.3 that I want to bring next year.

Any 9.3 is excessive for AR weekend

The locals are a little conservative with their attitudes

A 223 with gen 3+ scope will be perfect
