I have posted a link to the government petition on the pistol forum. I understand this is to gauge support for a return of target pistol shooting, for the olympics at least. If you support the return of pistols(and we should all fight each others corner) then please register your vote.
good shooting

From what I can see, only British citizens should sign it...

Here's the link anyway:

Hi Pete

I personally did think this is was a long long shot but it worked !

There is a goverment review of gun licensing rules in the UK which is ongoing at this point in time.

I spoke to 02 people which were present at the meeting 02 weeks ago.

I can say for sure the cost of FAC and variation is going to be DOUBLED. (you heard it first here on the 13/10/2010) I am not sure about shotguns though

I don't know what it is going to achieve but this is going to happen.

8 pistol licenses have been issued for those who are in the running for quota places.

Anybody outside this are not allowed to touch the pistols and there are strict conditions as to how the guns and ammo are going to be handles.

BTW 02 of my best friends have got GOLD at Delhi and there is a large party at my club this weekend. That's men and ladies trap singles

Have you noticed that there are very delay reporting about the shooting events ?

My friend who won the GOLD mens single did more interview with the indian press than he spoke to the british press during the whole week.

No offence to you or your friend, but I consider shooters that represent the UK at international level as having sold out to the Government. i would have more respect for them as individuals if they had boycotted the Commonwealth Games at the last minute giving the pistol ban as their reason.

Appeasment never gets you anywhere.

In fact I would go as far as saying that when the IOC were deciding where to hold the 2012 Olympics, we as shooters and the various organisations that represents us, should have made such a stink about the pistol ban, and its ramifications, that the IOC would have picked another city as host..

Instead, people are more interested in personal glory so pander to the Government...

BTW

Since you are not aware

Shooting sport as an entity is on the disussion menu amogst a list of sport after 2012 to be excluded from the olynmpics. What do you think a boycott will achieve ?

I stress the word discussion

I am very very sad about your views

Sorry, but I have to agree with Pete. This was a great oportunity to embarrass the government for hosting a sporting event which is basically illegal in the UK.
The shooting press and organisations should have been shouting it from the rooftops as soon as Britain tried to host the games, which Britain never should have got to do anyway.
No offence to the folks who have shot well and won medals, but it leaves everyone else in the lurch while getting the gov't off the hook.
But what do I care, I'm glad I don't live in the UK any more!

I personally think we should have nothing to do with any of the Olympic shooting sports - don't compete, don't attend, don't help out, etc.

We are unique in that our sport is represented yet we will not benefit at all by hosting.

Lastly, there's no way the world's press could ignore UK shooters boycotting the Olympics which would at least make both the Olympic Commitee and Govt squirm.

WOW

What a priviledge that I don't compete on behalf of any part of UK !

Let's stop mixing sports and politics and go back to European BIG GAME hunting ?

Shall we transfer this thread to the political forum?

I agree 100%. I can, even though I was just 11 years old remember the impact of the "Black Power" salute at the Mexico Games.

What an impact would it have been if the British pistol shooters refused to compete under the Union Jack but instead only under the Olympic flag?

I think that any person who is happy to participate in a sport in a manner that gives legitimacy to the legal prohibition of others from taking part in that same sport (whether if under apartheid on race grounds or here on "Dunblane handgun ban" grounds) is beneath contempt.

Absolutely.
I used to compete internationally in pistol comps and when we did well we REALLY took pride in waving the flag. I cannot look at the olympic team without a bitter taste forming now. This shadow of its former self country should never have been allowed to host the games. It's disgusting.

I am of half-British ancestry, Argyllshire and Hertfordshire and I cannot adequately express my sorrow and sympathy for you fine Brits where your fascist gun legislation is concerned. Canada and Australia, are following right along, could we BE the same valiant peoples who beat the Kaiser's forces and withstood fascism, at first largely alone, during the 20thC?

My maternal grandfather, an officer with the 21st. Batt., C.E.F., wounded at Courcelette and seriously, at a place called Passchendaele, was GIVEN his sidearms, including his pistol, when he was honourably discharged in 1919.......what a terrible difference between then and the socialist hell of today......

Stiff upper lip, chaps, we are not totally defeated yet! We just had the Owelympics here in Vancouver, B.C. and I would not attend and agree with and admire your integrity and resolve!

Anyone from "Blighty" who is considering coming to Canada, DO IT, bring your kids, dear old mum and even Uncle Herbert, we have the space and we can use more of you here. I will do anything I can to assist anyone who wants to come and make a new life in the "MMBC"*

* Miles and Miles of bloody Canada! Smiler

Unfortunately the reality of hunting now is entirely "sport and politics"

I believe this was posted on the pistol forum but the shooting portion of the Modern Pentathlon in 2012 will be done with laser pistols!
