An early morning sortie after Chinese water deer ended in a fine male and female pair.

Thought you might like to see the pictures.

Hi Ian,

Yes , I was the lucky one on the trigger. But not until the last minute.
I was out with another AR member. We had stalker these two - sitting out in the middle of a very large field - for about an hour.
Slowly making our way up the hedge line, trying to make like a bush and use all available cover till we could close the distance for a shot.

Just as we were closing in,I was asked if I would like to take them rather that the lead gun. Nuff said !!!!!

The doe must have watched us for the best part of 150 yards, but with the sun coming up behind us she was unable to make out us two skulking in the shadows.

The doe was taken ,off the sticks, at about 100 yards as she sat hunched up looking at us
The buck was just behind her looking the other way.

The sound of his partners demise made him stand up broadside on and look our way. He took a shot to the liver fist - fatal in itself - but also had an insurance shot to the lungs when he stopped a short run.

The wound that you can see is from fearce rutting between the males (the rut is in late November through to late December), and those teeth ain't just for show.
