I finally got back the mounted tusks of the big boar I shot last December during a drive hunt. It was a big and impressive animal weighting 106 kg (234 lbs.) dressed, which would indicate a live weight of 130-140 kg (290-310 lbs.).
Both tusks were broken and about to be resharpened. It's a pity but very common with big, old boars. One wonders how long the tusks were when intact.
I've laid a 9,3x74R round (the same as the one which felled the boar) alongside for comparison.

Very nice tusks and set up !!!!!!!!
Those big ol' boars are something special, not an everyday trophy...

Congrats

Very nice mount. I am trying to decide whether to mount my last boar that way or do a European mount on the entire skull.

Jeff,
Apart from taxidermy, this is the traditional European way to display boar tusks (a less frequent variant is to mount them linked by small chains). The half-head mount is reserved to horns/antlers carrying animals.

Andre'
Thank you for sharing your tradition. It is very intriguing to me.

Here in the US, the full skull mount is more commonly seen on large hogs.

The plaque is already in the make. Here's another trophy + plaque (longer but not as massive tusks. Boar weight was 85 kg (110 lbs.) dressed, 110 kg (243 lbs.) live weight).

It would be great if you can post a photo of the boar itself. Where did you hunt it?

Nice mounting Ignacio + the silver bands squeeze the hollow part to keep it from splitting up.
Personally, I had no camera with me on the day of the shooting, so photo of the beast.

Thanks
My name is Inacio not Ignacio.
I had the camera when I shot the wild boar.
In the following pictures we can see the boar and also that he had about 60 kg, not more.
I’m sorry for my incorrect English Wink. I hope you understand me.

My 9,3x74R handload consists of :

286 Norma Plastic Point (I bought up several old boxes at a bargain price)
Norma case
WLR primer
H4831 / 68.0 (heavily compressed !)
vel. : not clocked.

Both bbls. of My FN-Browning o/u shoot this load in the same hole at 50 m.

I developed this load a year ago and have since shot a few boars with it. All bullets went through and through and I didn't recover a single one but, judging from the damage inside, expansion appears to be rather violent. For drive hunting it works wonderfully and rolls wild boars like rabbits. Real dynamite !

I've not tried it yet but, the day I'll be through my stock of Plastic Points, I plan to substitute Norma Alaska bullets, expecting similar results; albeit with a little harder bullet.
