Can anyone point me in the right direction for either of these? If they can be stalked on a short hunt, and aren't too expensive, it might make a great add on to an African safari.

Both easily obtained - no more than an hour north of London.

Very doable on a short hunt as density is high - as ever, an excellent trophy may require a bit of financial outlay.

Suggest late January as ideal - the CWD have finished rutting - but the cover is low enough that the Muntjac are easily spotted.

A friend took me out on two stalks for Chinese on his place near Bedford/Milton Keynes, and I managed 5 without too much effort. One was a cracking buck on one side, but unfortunately he had snapped the other off!

When i have been foxing near MK i have seen upto 35 cwd in one night but would not want to shoot one that way (a bit too easy, and a bit too illegal for my taste!)

I have taken one on the Suffolk Coast on an Estate i manage, but they are fairly thin on the ground up this way.

CWD are about my favourite eating deer, i just wish i had some regular stalking for them of my own.

I have heard good things about Sean Scott who runs a local sporting aency for putting people onto these and muntjac.

Hope that helps.

Personaly I would want to wait until March/April for the muntjac. Undergrowth is no higher (at least in March) light is better for longer and weather likely to be a bit better.

I was hunting for CWD and muntjac last year. in 2 days I got a very big CWD in Buckinghansire and 4 good muntjacs in Canbridgesire. The guide was Mr. Gerald Collino. I think the better time is febrery or begining of march, jut when the birth huntin is finish.

Your right we stop for the CWD's in Early March, but we have a Bicks only policy from 1st February.

Muntjac tend to be shot as and when we can.

You can come down to Texas and hunt both of those! Chinese Water Deer about $4,500 and Reeve's Muntjac about $1,500. Usually $150-$250 per day with meals, lodging, and guide. If you are interested, PM me and I can get some info for you.

Eland you can shoot both of them in England for $1500.

So a flight from anywhere to England and back plus the hunt would be cheaper than the prices for Texas.

The Texans are stupid about trophy fees.

Some of them will pay $20,000 for a whitetail buck.
