Well it might not be every ones cup of tea but if you shoot a big Roe buck and see his antlers as bigger than average it is nice to see how he measures up against all the other big animals shot around the country. One way to do this is to get it measured officially. The CIC measures are at most big game fairs and will measure any heads put in front of them but only the really good ones will get and award. The awards are in the form of

BRONZE ....... SILVER ............ GOLD

I put in three heads this year after winning a charity auction from the BDS.

Me and my mates got back one gold and two Bronze all from the city of Glasgow.

Two Bronze shot by my friends Tucker and Ian and there first ever Medals

107.3 cic points 108.4 cic points
This was the big lad that made Gold and i was surprised as he only weighs around 560 grms.

134.7 CIC Points

The Paper work is in the post so will see were the points came from when i get it through. But i will assume it must have been volume as it is very thick

That is a great score for such low tines (still a great trophy tu2)...I shot a buck once which scored 138 CIC and the tines were 30,5 cm and 29,5 cm. It was only 429 g (upper jaw cut off). This I believe we have discussed before Smiler You sure must score alot from the volume. It looks super massive.

Let us know the points when you get the paper back?!

That is a very nice trophy.

I don't feel much of a urge to shoot trophies, but I would make an exception for a Roe like that.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

I like to see nice bucks out and about and happy for them to spread their genese around. Would rather catch up with them when they are old and going back, but it is nice to shoot the odd good one. Indeed best buck to date was my first which made a bronze by just a couple of points. I shot him in the spring time when his coat was moulting. Couple of years ago I took my 6 yr old daughter out and she called in with a buttalo another good buck at the end of the rut - albeit his antlers were going back big time. His facial markings were very similar so I took the cape and sent the first antlers plus cape up to Bill Bartlett in Invergarry and he did a superb mount. It's now on the stairs and enjoy it several times a day. There are some good piccies of it on the SD. I enjoy it as it has good memories for me, not because its a medal buck.

Bill Bartlet dose some fantastic work with roe deer infact the best i have ever seen. I met him in inverness a few weeks back and he brought a coupl of mounts that he had done a roebuck in summer and one in winter. They were special. I gave him a few capes and a couple of spare roe heads i had. Really nice chap might get a head done my self one day. With regards the boiling out its not to bad a job but i do not bleach them till they come back from the CIC Then they get cut and bleached.

SLDG, again congtrats on a great buck Smiler

When it comes to the Rowland Ward listing of roebuck heads I reckon the lenght of tines has to be 25-26cm or 10 inches + to make the list. Atleast this is what I was told, but I'm not quite sure. I believe "Stubberud" would know more about this?!!

@SLDG and Mr.G The RW minimum is 9 7/8 inches or 25 cm. Rank on the lenght of the longest antler. New fron the 29edition is the weight of the dry rack attached to the skull, however without lower jaw. ( cut skulls will be considered as full skulls. )RW also include the CIC measurment as addional info. Boone & Croocket only apply for the American spices. The SCI metohods is listed on their homepage.
