Anything to hunt in Malta?

Anybody here ever been to Malta? I am going there for my honeymoon next June and was wondering if there was anything there to hunt, very small islands so I don't know. They have a shooting range marked on their tourist map, I thought that was a good sign. Anything a sportsman should keep their eyes open for there? (good gunshops, manufacturers, bikini clad shooting instructors)

I am going to try one more time to talk the fiancee into doing africa instead, :-) I think I will have about 6k total by then, that might be enough for two people, one of them a non-hunter, to do some plains game on. :-) (she says that she will go to Africa with me, but only if she gets to wear a white dress and it is like in the old movies with the real nice dinners and the tents or little huts to stay in.)

Thanks,

Red

I imagine that could very easily be arranged if you let them know.

I went to Zimbabwe on my honeymoon in 1994 and my wife loved it - she hates camping.

Old world service - people to carry your bags for you into and out of hotels, trains, etc. Loads of staff catering to your needs. Fresh daily iron laundry every evening.

Pierre van Wyk was telling me of something he once organised for a tourist group on his farm in Zim (he also does sightseeing groups as well as hunting).

The group went on a horse riding game viewing afternoon. Out into the bush and along the Shangaani River. As night fell they were riding along on the soft sands of the river bed, turned a bend in the river and ......

a long dining table covered with a white table cloth, lots of candles and full table service. A romantic dinner setting under the Southern Cross and African moon in the African night.

Last time I was in Malta was close to ten years ago. To my knowledge the only things there to shoot are the odd songbird that makes it over from Libya. I would be surprised if there was ever any big game hunting on Malta. It is an archipelago comprised of five islands, the largest being some 9 by 17 miles, occupied by 365,000 people. Not much room for game. It will make a wonderful honeymoon destination, but if you are set on a hunting honeymoon, go elsewhere.

Not really set on hunting during the honeymoon, just saw the shooting range on the map and got hopeful. I was the one that suggested Malta too, very old coiuntry with wonderful historical sights, and I love history, and Leah was a history major, so it should be wonderful.

thanks for the input on the romantic safari, I am going to run the idea by her and if it looks like a maybe will check into it. Only thing is that I will have a total budget of 6k, and that will have to include airfare, I don't think safaris come that cheap for a shooter and one non. Malta is a relatively inexpensive place to go in comparison to outher touristy destinations.

We'll see........Either way I'll have a blast! (just won't get to do any blasting with Malta :-)

Dago Red,
congratulations for your next wedding.
I think in Malta the only type of hunt is the small birds shooting in the fall during the migration from Europe to Africa. Milions of small birds, ducks, etc cross the Mediterraneo sea, they stop a bit in Malta.
In june is not the right period.

Instead if you want, you can come in my 100.000 hectares hunting concession in Zimbabwe. Very nice place, old tipical romantic hunting camp, plenty of free range plains game. With 6.000 us you can stay a week and take many animals.
