Hey folks,

Sorry to bother with a non-hunting question but I am absolutely desperate...

My custom Sako 75 in .308 needs a new barrel and I would prefer a lighter contour this time. Meaning that a new stock is needed... :-)

Now, there does not seem to be a single sincere supplier of synthetic stocks in good old Germany. So my question would be - can I as a private person import a stock from the US? Have you tried it? Does it work? What's the hassle involved?

Thank you so much,

Elwood.

Importing from the US is going to be difficult because of their export restrictions but you could try to order online from someone like Cabela's and see if the order process will allow you to place the order...... my guess is that it'll take you through the order and then at the last stage give you a message that say's something like impossible to deliver to that address.

If you can order it, you'll probably get hit by very high import taxes & VAT etc. - FWIW, I recently ordered car parts from the USA for delivery to Portugal and the taxes were higher than the cost of the spares...... the bastards even charged me tax & VAT on the post & packing!

Have you tried ordering from elsewhere in the EU? - If not you might like to see if you can order from HERE or HERE.

Alternatively, why not contact the manufacturers and ask for contact details of your nearest stockist or order direct from them?

I have ordered directly from McMillan via the 24hourcampfire.com website. Delivery to UK has never been a problem, and their prices are discounted.

Another alternative is to order from Jackson Rifles in Scotland, they keep a good choice of models, colours in stock for immediate delivery.

Hope that helps.

Thanks everybody for your feedback! Looked at all the options, good I see that there are a few decent ones with resonable pricing and shipping conditions! Unfortunately I underestimated delivery time so roe buck season will have to start with my good old bulky McMillan Hunter stock... Oh well, things could be worse I suppose.
