I am new to this forum, and I considering buying a 1908 Mannlicher-Schoenhauer in 8x56. Does anyone have any experience with this gun/caliber? Also, how hard is it to reload? I would appreciate any assistance. Regards, Daniel

Daniel, Just do a search on Gunbroker. There are a number of sellers offering 8x56 Mannlicher 95 ammunition both old and relatively new there. But then it may be collector stuff if it is really old and not shootable... Good hunting!

Hello. I had an 8x56 M-S for many years and shot it quite a bit. I formed brass in the RCBS F/L die just a bit long with the decap stem removed using 270, and '06 brass. Use the smallest base diameter you can find, trim to length after the first resize, then resize again with the stem, so the bolt closes with a little resistance. Check length again and load. My rifle liked almost any published Euro pressure 8X57 loads at the 95% level, and particularly IMR 3031, with the Sierra 175 grain spire point. It did very well with the 125 grain bullets too. The 200s were too much recoil for me. My loaded length was slightly over 3.00 with the l75 grain. I used long cases in forming to insure that I did not have really short headspace. I guess I could have ran measurements and likely used 8X57 M. for an easier job but I didn't have any but did have lots of the other. You will love that M-S. Regards, ned
