The bear that killed the moose-hunter was not killed at once as he was not found until very late by a police with a tracking dog. The policeman was only armed with his handgun since they thought that the hunter might have had a fall or something. When they realized it was a bear that had killed him the policeman just left with the rescue-helicopter. No hunters with rifles were there at the time, and it was in the evening. So they had to leave the hunters body in the forest and waited until next day when they also hade got hold som some experienced bear-hunters with good dogs. According to the papers, the bear was dead from the bulletwound when they got there. It took a long time before they first find him, he was working his dog several kilometers from the other hunters and they did not know exactly where he was. We are talking real wilderness here. There are a lot of bear in Sweden, and there have been a lot of incidents this year when moosehunters have had to scream or shoot warning shots to scare the bears away. There are legal bear-hunting, but once the license for that county is filled, you need to be so close that there are powdermarks in the fur if you are to get away with shooting one in self defence.
