Gentleman, what can you tell me about this round? I have not been able to find out much about it other than general comments. What speed does it operate at and how is is it viewed in break open rifles?

It is gaining in popularity in Europe, very flat shooting up to 200m, with 196gr. Quite a few express rifle and express drillings are being built for this round. Amunition is difficult to find and quite expensive. Considered as a connoisseur round.

I see Blaser produces ammo in 8 x 75 RS, as well as listing it as one of their possible chamberings. Blaser ballistics are 196gr CDP bullet at 830m/s.

It is most recommendable for the reloader even though original cases are expensive and hard to get. Sometimes they are available both used and new from www.egun.de. Cases can also be made from new 9.3x74 R brass. The round gives you nearly 8x68 S performance out of a break-top action. At the same time, you can easily download to 8x57 IRS performance for shorter distances/wood hunting. I have a barrel in that caliber for my Blaser K95 and have tried both Speer Hot Core 170 grain (a little bit too tough for roe deer at lower speeds) and Nosler BT 180 grain, nearly same POI, when loading the Nosler to top speed with powders like RL19 or Norma 204 there is a noticeable kick when shooting at the range. These long cartridges sure do look impressive. By the way, it was apparently Reichsjägermeister Hermann Göring's favourite round.

MEN used to be pretty much the only game in town when it came to either factory loaded ammo or brass. Ammo and brass was priced accordingly... . Since Blaser now offers this caliber in the CDP series (much to my surprise, thanks for pointing this out Stu), that *could* mean a second source (Swiss Ruag) for brass might be available. I'm hedging my bets here, as it is not always easy to get brass out of Ruag... - mike P.S. Frankonia in Germany (http://www.frankonia.de/shop/_/cid/1512/ammunition_huelsen/productsTable.html - select option 8x75RS from left pull-down menu) lists brass as available under "Frankonia" manufacture. Price: about 2 Euro per case, but still... ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... It entices its bearer into primeval forests, into mountains and deserts untenanted by man. - Horace Kephart

Like Bobby said; It's pretty much a boutique cartridge and I've seen a couple of custom over/under & single shot rifles chambered for it. Definately an immpressive looking cartridge; pretty much an imporved shape & volume; my Riflemaker gave me a MEN cartridge but a collector talked me out of it. It had a black primer to designate the .323" bullet diameter. Frankonia also has their Frankonia International website in English to assist foreign customers. https://export.frankonia.de//scripts/home/home.php Cheers, Number 10

Thanks for the information. I was looking for a round that is somewhat flat shooting with a heavy bullet that carries energy downrange for use in a Blaser rifle.

It is also available in a number of double rifles including Heym. Sounds like a great world medium game cartridge to me.
