Dear all, Some of you will remember having met my father in law David Gavin at the AR hunt a couple of years ago. Sadly he passed away today after a 15 month battle with Cancer that he refused to stop fighting until the last. He leaves behind his wife of nearly 40 years and four children. The reason I post here is because Dave referred to those two evenings fallow stalking as being one of the most exciting things he had ever seen after we stalked & shot a buck at less than ten meters at last light. He was particularly thankful of the hospitality all the members extended to him as a man with no background in shooting and he often spoke of you all fondly when remembering that weekend. He particularly smiled and asked after the mad icelander and his polar bear hunting plans!! I would like the thank those of you that knew of his illness and always asked after him throughout the year. The world is a poorer place without such a dedicated husband and father. It looks like the funeral will be in Dublin on Thursday or Friday so I will not be attending the AR hunt. Dig will be taking care of things in my absence so I hope everyone has a great time. Please be sure to raise a glass to absent friends. Best regards, Kiri

Terribly sorry to hear that Kiri. I met David at the AR stalking event two years ago. It was hard to miss how friendly he was. My thoughts are with you and your family. - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... I think Dave attended the first two AR bash's at Baldock. Hell of a nice guy who enjoyed the craic, and could keep up his end of the party. He very memorably put Gerry back in his box when Gerry was in full flow. One of the funniest incidents I can remember... Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam... Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

K, Can't add anything to what I said earlier, I'll not forget the meal after the Christening where Dave intorduced me to a table full of E's family with the words "This is Amir, now he's very weird" before wandering off to find a drink and leaving me facing a table of slightly baffled and mildly apprehensive faces..... He had quite a sense of humour, the old boy. Best, A

Kiri, I'm sad to hear of his passing, please pass on my condolences to his family and yours. I remember him getting stuck in at Baldock as we pitched into the washing up after a fairly monumental meal, not a shy man when things needed to be done. Great company and surely we will raise a glass to him this weekend. Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.
