Pleased to announce I am the proud owner of one Landig game chiller. Immediate benefit is I can comply with the food hygiene laws until they change again. Most importantly no summer evening chaos trying to get carcasses butchered before the flies turn up. Bliss.

Mark,

Very nice indeed! After a recent episode, I know somebody else on here who will be very interested!

I ended up buying essenially a smaller version of yours off Ebay, but it will only take two decent sized Roe...Still for under £70 delivered it will do me for now, and as you say it certainly makes dealing with summer roe bucks or muntjac much easier..

What is the internal size of yours and how many carcass do you think it will hold?

I have heard rumours that the next change being talked about in Europe is that two chillers or seperate chilled compartments may be required ie one for beasts in the jacket, and one for when its skinned, unless you have a proper chilled "cutting room"..

Its supposedly aimed at the larger operations, so hopefully it won't impact on the likes of us on here, but who knows when Brussels gets involved..

Regards,

Pete

Strange you should say that - I was just thinking of the look on FB's face when we crammed four beasts into his overworked coke chiller.

Rumour has it, that it promptly expired - leading to panic butchery of the carcasses!

On that note - I got home, to be offered a chiller from a shop refit (FOC Roll Eyes ) . This was installed to the Artemis larder - and a couple roe swiftly obtained by herself!

As Mark mentioned - it certainly beats battling the flies and the summer heat after a successful foray!

IanF,

I think FB managed to breath a bit of life back into it, at least on a temporary basis anyway!

The problem with most of the drinks chillers I have seen is that they are a bit shallow to be ideal for larger carcasses.

Most seem to be about 18" deep (front to back, internally) although a few do go to 24" which is much better..I've seen some of the big stainless steel catering fridges go for peanuts on Ebay, but while being plenty wide and deep enough, even the tall ones often don't have enough internal height to hang a big carcass...

Regards,

Pete

Hi Guys

The chiller will take up to 2x75kg boar or two full size fallow bucks. As you say the coke chillers can't take the weight.
Anyway mines full up now with another fallow which was feasting on the wheat Big Grin.

Pete,

You were right about my chiller as it had frozen itself up. I think putting warm carcasses into the unit made it over work. 2-3hrs of no power and an open door promptly releived it and brought the carcasses down to sensible temps. I still think a proper chiller is required for the ammount of game that goes through my house.

Quiet times at the moment but when the game season is on it can get a bit congested in there.

Rgds,
