Open to suggestions, what do you use? What works best?

Roll on the hard frosts of winter, until then I will have to take more preventive action as I'm getting covered with the little buggers every weekend!

I've just discovered Avon So Soft which was orgionally designed as some sort of bath oil (I don't usually use that kind of stuff) but it is now well known to stop midges, insects etc from biting. Apparently it is even issued to British commandos in the jungle! They also now make one called So Soft Bug Guard Plus IR3535 which has a repellant in it.

I usually get hammered by biting insects almost every time I go out, but I tried this stuff in Scotland a few weeks ago and although it does not stop the midges from flying around near you, this was the first time I didn't get bitten at all. Its reported to keep ticks at bay as well and I didn't get any ticks this time although I'm usually fairly careful about them anyway.

Also makes your skin nice and soft too!!

regards

Nigel.

100% Deet, but I am fairly chemical resiliant. I also do the doggie wash post hunt, or post time outdoors.

You can pre-treat yourself by taking a bath with dog shampoo before the hunt. It is supposed to last for 5 days (at leas the one I use does).

Yes you smell like wet dog for a week, but not having Lyme Disease is also nice.

You can also treat your clothing with permethrin and that kills the ticks that get on your clothes.

Before all else, be armed.

l read somewhere that anything above 33% deet is of no further use/deterant to the bugs, and is toxic to the human system as it has a residual effect on the nervous system and organs. Though l do have a bottle of 50% deet that l am still using up till the end of this season and will then shift to the Avon gear. l have a freind that works on the Spade Adam ranges and they've all been issued with Avon "skinsosoft" and had the deet withdrawn from use.

NoBite is a very good repellant. Available for clothes and skin.
for me, it perfectly worked in Europe, Africa and Asia. Not one tick or mosquito or tsetsefly since i use it. But its a little bit toxic.

I agree with 9.3 Nige. Avon Scin So Soft is great for repelling all sorts of insects.

I have used it in Africa to stop the tetse fly from biting and sucking your blood dry.

Give it a go it does the trick.

Mike

I agree with Nigel too.

I was switched onto Avon SSS 9 years ago whilst working in Canada.

I've used it ever since in Scotland, Mongolia, W Africa and Sth USA and Latin America
