I am going on a family vacation to Greece next year, thinking about staying after to do some hunting if there is any.

If not Greece, what about a neighboring country? I know Turkey has Ibex, but the $8500 price tag I saw on one hunt is a bit steep for my budget.

Looking at August/Sept probably.

Wendell,

What about a wild boar hunt in Turkey?

Take a look at this site: shikarsafarisand you will see they have a lot on offer for you to choose from.

I have hunted with them and can highly recommend them.

Wendell,

there isn't a lot of big game hunting in Greece commercially. They do have some Boar in the mountains but I wouldn't know how you could go about getting some shooting.

In Cyprus where I am from, rifles are illegal so although we have some very large populations of Mouflon on the island noone hunts them....officialy.

It's a real shame as they are a fabulous resourcew that is not being used and is just suffering from the poachers.

i read somewhere that rifles are illeagal in grease except for smoothboores (shotguns) so I suspect the hunting is not very good over there. Frowner

I have shot Birds and Clays in Greece. My friend has his own shotgun and everyone else shows up with thier own as well; they run the gamut from SxS's, O/U's to Semi-Autos. Never seen a rifle there though.

What about an Ibex hunt in Turkey? One that I can afford. $8500 is a bit too much, but if that is the going rate, then maybe I need to look elsewhere.

Wendell,

If you want a mountain hunt, there are some chamois hunts in former Yugoslavia that might be more up your financial alley. I'd need to go look for prices, in my disorganized pile of stuff, if you want. (drop me a PM in that case, I will forget; also I know an editor/writer of a German magazine quite well, and I'm almost certain he had a chamois hunt down there not too long ago).

BTW, Reinald von Meurers, with whom I lost contact since I moved across the ocean, hunted in East-Turkey DIY, and got a few nice ibex and chamoise out of there.

Wendell,

As I said I have hunted wild boar with Shikar Safaris. But I have also discussed the possibility of hunting ibex and chamois with them. And the prices seemed reasonable.
Many friends of mine have hunted with them and agree that they are the best outfit (quality/price wise).

B.Martins,

Yes, I looked at Shikar. They were $8500. They have conflicting info on when the Ibex hunting starts. Some areas say it starts in August, others say November.

Wendeel,

Send Kaan Karakaya an e-mail and sure he will give you all the details.
And you being a hunting consultant will make negotiating with him even easier.

When I was last in Greece ('97) ... they certainly didn't allow rifles. My cousins used to tell me stories of hunting Boar up along the Bulgarian border whilst stationed nearby as conscripts but they "mostly" used shotguns with slugs. What about Bulgaria??? There's certainly some little known trout fishing in Central Greece that the locals don't value much Big Grin.

was in greece this summer visited a village where wild boars were introduced 25 yrs ago.this and neighbouring villages resemble ghost towns having been abandoned by there populations seeking work in cities and in other countries.the boar population has reached great numbers.I was shown pictures by villagers on their cell phones of monstrous boars.Their is no annual bag limit, there are so many and so few people to hunt them that you and a partner are allowed to shoot one on every excursion.I was invited there to go hunting this fall and was told where I can find them that very moment. These are truly wild boars living in the wild forests and mountains.I was told thay are hunted with slugs or buckshot and are not very difficult to put down despite their size.they also do not charge if wounded or when hunted and are very scared of humans.ofcourse they will charge if cornered olike any other wild living thing.there meat is best in a stew as it is not as soft as swine for roasting.roasted european swine is super delicious by the way nothing here compares.I ve hunted here before for small game with relatives and it is a hunter is paradise.I remember shooting all kinds of birds including africain migratory birds such as hoopers
