Need some help with hints, tips, etc for reloading as I've never loaded for either a double rifle or a rimmed case...also what components to use and/or which to avoid.

I think this rifle is going to be the final push I need to finally follow thru and set up trip to Europe for some boar hunting .. stalking and driven.

OH! Anyone know anything about this bullet.
NORMA 296 gr nickel plated PPDC...and if so, what does the PPDC mean>

G'day, Not sure about a 9.3x74R double, but I can help you with info about the loads I use in my 9.3x74R BBF (combo gun). Do you have access to Woodleigh projectiles? If so, I can recommend the 286gr Protected point. Not that you will need that particular construction in a double, but simply because they will expand reliably and still penetrate well. try for Norma cases if you can, they seem to last well.
You might try H4350, I wouldn't go much over 57gr, seems to work well, VERY accurate in my rifle (.70 moa), about 2100fps out of a 24" BBL, minimal pressure and good extraction. You will probably need to play around with the loads in order to regulate the BBLs of your double.
RCBS make (or used to) dies for this cartridge. You may need to make sure the opening in your press is large enough to take the cartridge case, as it is longer than your average cartridge (about 1/2" longer than an '06).
Hope this helps.

Cheers, Dave.

PPDC is norma plastic point bullet. A very fast expanding and fragile bullet, it's very popular for driven hunts in Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Belgium.

Norma made a nickel plated version called silverblixt quite some time ago, I think plastic point PPDC also been offered with nickel plated jacket.

Norma, RWS, Sako makes decent brass.

Someone told me the Winchesters Grand European U/Os aren't actually regulated ie by test shooting and adjusting before final attachement of the barrels.

Do you know if your rifle is actually regulated and which ammo was used?

The rifle had to be shipped to me and it's in transit. When I examined it the owner had everything in the case except the "proof-target" but he e-mailed me that he had found it and was including it, as well as some other paperwork in the case with the rifle and acessories. I don't know what was used for regulation but he told me he used heavier bullets on driven boar.

For the 9.3x74R in a double, I would recomend RWS brass over NORMA and better still LAPUA if they make 9.3X74R
Woodliegh "round nose" in 286GRN, but it would be good to know what it was originally set with.
A nice Shmidt&Bender 1.25-4 Mag eye relief scope on Q/R RECNAGLE mounts would set it off.
Good hunting, Adam C

Bill,

Some doubles are factory regulated with a certain load and will be “all over the target†if you use a different load. Others are more forgiven and won’t change POI that much when you use different loads (my Krieghoff 9,3x74R would do just that).
But some doubles (like Krieghoff’s, Blaser’s,…) allow you to adjust the barrels in order to regulate for your particular loads! Others (like Chapuis’) must be regulated at the factory, making them less flexible!
On mine I use RWS brass, 286 and 293 RWS bullets, 286 Lapua Mega and Sellier & Bellot with good results.
