Hey guys

just spent a couple of days at the vegas SCI show and it looks like I may have an opportunity for a couple of traditional montaria hunts in spain.

prices will be similar to the two day drivenboar packages we have all seen but with a higher bag of both deer mouflon and boar. looking at about £1800 with no trophy fees for culldeer cull mouflon or any boar quality.

I need to dig down a bit deeper for any potential hidden costs like gun permits etc, but I thought i would throw it out there as an alternative to drivenboar and might be a fun weekend away doing something different. price would also include any hospitality and accomodation I believe

Rgds

Hey Grenadier,

I've been speaking to a couple of Spanish contacts and the offerings for the Monteria hunts seem to be "negotiable" in the main part on price and content.

The trip I outlined above was indicated to me that a team of ten guns (shooting exclusively) should expect a bag of 40-80 head of game per day depending on the ability of the guns. The price included three females of Red deer/Mouflon each day per gun and unlimited boar of any trophy size. Full hospitality was also included.

I was also working on a deal that would allow us to take trophy animals at preferential rates which I thought would tie in nicely with the Mouflon that some were interested in.

I would treat this as an Athina exploratory hunt for no profit as it isn't currently part of our offerings.

Rgds,
Kiri

I'm 99% in

As I'm sure you know, it all comes down to how many times they hunt the place in a year (doesn't matter if its "exclusive" for the weekend), and how hard they're hunting it. Had a nightmare a couple years ago... not good.

Anyway, sure you have someone good

Keep me posted!

Cheers

I probably won't be in any position to commit one way or the other until after Summer. But I'm interested.

What month(s) are you looking at?

Ovar

IIRC they said to me that they would hunt the place twice per season for the drive hunts, and the rest of the trophy hunting was done on 1x1 basis.

Hi guys,

I've had some emails and some phone conversations today & I'm getting to the bottom of this. There are a couple of things that have come up that I will detail below that are both positives and negatives for those interested in this. In fact the only negative is that the price is not as all inclusive as I thought but all the other info is good.

Initially my references tell me that this outfit is a very reputable group in Spain and well known for quality hunts. They are also known for not being the cheapest but they have been operating for about 25 years. The offer we have been made stacks up quite favourably in the eyes of my local contact as being good value for the amount of shooting they are proposing.

The hunt can be available either in December or early Feb. We would probably take a Sunday arrival and hunt Monday/Tuesday subject to availability. Depart Tuesday depending on flights.

I am getting more information through at the moment so that I can price this accurately. I spoke to them this mng and the accommodation was only included in the driven partridge hunts (not the Monteria) so we are looking at between Eur50 to Eur100 per night for half board hotel accommodation. Probably 2 nights.

Things like VAT etc have an impact which needs to be looked into if prices are subject to VAT.

I was told however that this could be an exclusive trip for a team of 10-15 guns, otherwise we could take a smaller group at the same prices and join other clients.

Each gun would be accompanied by a guide on his stand throughout the day to provide guidance and help for those new to drive hunting.

You take one stand per day and they move the beaters and the dogs around the grounds. The result is a 4-5 hour stand followed by lunch. After lunch you can go relax or go out with the guides to follow up and recover shot game. Each pack of dogs is 20+ dogs per section of the property.

I'm sure there is more to find out but it's all part of the process.

This type of hunting has really tweaked my interest so it would be good to go out and check it out if we can make it viable.

K

Some Pics as more details of this hunt come in. These are pictures were provided to me by the estate I am currently talking to so the hunters in the last pics are not my clients, but they will give a good idea of terrain weather etc.

Sounds like a very interesting hunt Wink

Depending mostly on date, but I am quite interested.

Looks like location may be in the Pyrenees, that would be nice. I'll keep track of the info as it becomes available, thanks Kiri, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

Usually on monteria cost include meal only on hunting. For accomodation and transfer need to pay in addition.
On my monteria last Feb I payd for bag 4500 euro, were included 10 female of deer, 4 stag,1 muflon or 1 fallow deer, wild boar no limit. I took 6 female, 4 stags , muflon, fallow deer( payd 1500 euro add), one wild boar( by knife).
Monteria is great experience for shooting and interesting tradition hunting.

Hey guys,

I met up with my Spanish Contact in Dallas this year and explained the stumbling block on this hunt for us.

They have now come back with more info on this hunt for me and I am finalising an itinerary for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd November this year to head out and hunt boar, mouflon, red and Fallow deer. It will be two days hunting, and we would be looking for a team of 10-14 guns.

Is anyone still interested in making an AR trip out of this? Expect about 8-15 animals each over the weekend as an average.

Rgds,
Kiri

Hi Caracal,

I have three options at the moment. One is purely wild boar where we will hunt out of the same location for two consecutive days. One day is the community hunt (about 80 head) and the next day is a private hunt for 12-20 of us again for Wild boar (expect about 20 head).

The second is to join a community hunt on the first day at the location above and the second day to go to a private monteria about 2 hours away where the above pictures were taken. The second day will be mainly for Fallow and Mouflon females (about 60 head).

Thirdly there is an option to do a community hunt in Portugal on the first day (about 80 head) followed by a private drive hunt for red hinds on the second day (about 40 head)

When I get the final offerings I will put a separate post up and we can see if we have enough guys to make a team. I am tending towards booking both options two and three at the moment myself.
