I was always sceptical of these sightings until recently, what we saw on that eventful morning wasa non native species.I think however that a lot of these sightings could be answered if more people were better educated as to what they could encounter in this rich and diverse country of ours..
We have next door to us at Drumlanrig Castle a shop which has a stuffed otter (female) stood upright on a plinth outside their front door, If defies belief what some of these parents tell their offspring! A Badger, A Stoat, A pine martin, the list is endless, so I treat with some sceptisism as to what people think they see..

griff

How can they confuse a panther [tan ,no stripes ] with a tiger [orange and black stripes] ??? These stories have been around a long time in the UK and have gotten to be like UFO sightings in many ways. Some I'm sure are valid.

Mete,

I was thinking exactly the same thing!

I was also thinking of the fun you could have with a great dane and a couple of cans of paint! Big Grin

A couple of years back, we had some sightings of a "panther" near us...As usual, once one report hit the local paper, it generated dozens of similar sightings and potential "kills"...

I never payed much attention to it all, untill one evening, just on dusk, the "cat" ran across the road in front of me..Luckily I was able to pull over fairly quickly and take a good luck at it with some bino's...

As it crossed the road, it definitely looked very, very cat like...even when vioew from the rear as it walked away from me across a field, it still looked very cat and this was with the aid of binoculars...

Just as it was about to push its way through a hedge, I gave a squeak on the back of my hand and it paused to look around...Looking at its head, it was clearly a dog of some sort; probably a stray lurcher I would think..

.As this was smack in the middle of the area where most of the sighting were, I suspect I this is what had been seen...

Regards,

Pete
